    Upson

A few months back I was talking to some brum fan that told me we would sign pennant which we did and he also said that upson would be signing in january because brum couldnt afford his wages.

I couldnt see it happening as he has been out for a while but I have seen him linked to us a few times lately,I am not a big fan of him but he would give us some pace at the back.

Do we need him though? We already have good defensive cover.

I think he is an excellent player but he is quite injury prone and we already have Palleta and Agger on top of Carra and Hyypia. If at the end of the season Sami seems finished it would be a good buy but not in Jan.

Upson met with senior liverpool officials approx 10 months ago ...at the time Birmingham wanted 5million. Upson indicated he wanted the move but wouldnt ask birmingham for the transfer.

Thing is though, Hyypia wont have long left, and unlike Paletta and Agger, Upson is established and proven in the Premiership.

If he'd cost peanuts, i'd love us to sign him.

Remember reading this myself some time back.

Could be a decent signing IMO but would question if it would make the squad top heavy with CB.

Upson is good but not top draw. If he was at Liverpool today he'd be no more than 4th choice centre back behind Cags, Hyypia and Agger. Even if he was available I'd rather spend the money on something else.

Good squad player. Injury prone though.

Upson is a decent player but not top class, good turn of pace and a strong lad, decision making isn't the best though.
If we sign him, i'll give him my full support, like any player we sign.

He'd be a good option when Sami finishes playing.

How old is Upson now? HIs injury record of late isn't that good though eh!

I think he would be a good addition to the squad, offers yet more possibilities to the centre back pairings, and has been mentioned above, is PL experienced and could easily become 1st stand in for the Carra/Agger partnership that is no doubt looming, and is young enough to offer us 4 years in that position, which would leave funds available to be spent strengthening elsewhere.

Don't forget the youth team - Hobbs and probably Roque will probably make it in the next couple of years to be back-up to Danny and Gabby.

i agree i like the player a solid center back with the added bonus of having a good football brain and also he as premiership experience and will take less time to settle in than say agger and palleta, sign him in jan i say.

Another one Wenger got rid of who has failed to pull any trees up elsewhere. I'd take him on a free but that's about it.
