    Cisse on target for Marseille

By Laurent Picard - Created on 6 Dec 2006

Djibril Cisse has scored his first goal since being loaned out to Marseille from Liverpool.

The French striker broke his leg whilst on international duty in June and has not played for the Marseille first-team this season.

However, he has stepped up his recovery over the past few weeks and took part in a friendly game against fourth division side Martigues on Tuesday.

As well as scoring, Cisse also hit the post with a 25-yard free-kick before being substituted after 60 minutes, and Marseille coach Albert Emon was pleased to see him back in action.

"We have to be patient with Djibril but his performance was encouraging," he said.

"He asked for the ball a number of times, kept the ball a little, had a couple of shots.

"I think he needs that kind of game to be in the best mental state for the future."

Cisse is set to find out when he will be available for first-team selection when he meets his surgeon on Wednesday.

"We have to see how is feeling over the next few days, but we hope the surgeon will give him the green light to return to competition," said Emon.

Meanwhile, trialists Brian Carroll, Mahmane Dembele and Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra all played in the game against Martigues.

"It wasn't easy for them to integrate quickly like that, but that is not too bad," said Emon.

    "I have seen interesting things."

Looks like he could be back soon. Good news.

      CISSE RETURNS AS MARSEILLE WIN

Djibril Cisse came off the bench to set up Marseille's winner as they ran out winners against Ligue 1 rivals Monaco.

Cisse, on loan from Liverpool, has been out of action since breaking his leg in a pre-World Cup friendly for France but his assist allowed Mamadou Niang to stroke home the match-winning goal following strikes from Marseille's Mickael Pagis and Monaco's Marco Di Vaio.

The hosts started brightly and when a ninth-minute corner was swung into the Monaco box, Lorik Cana found himself unmarked.

He connected well with his header but visiting keeper Flavio Roma was equal to it and made good ground to pull off a fine save on the line.

Pagis went even closer moments later and when he collected Wilson Oruma's centre he attempted an audacious lob which unluckily landed on top of the crossbar.

Pagis did find the goal with his next attempt when, after some neat play on the right wing from Niang, Taye Taiwo launched a cross which Pagis met first, headering forcefully beyond the static Roma.

The visitors looked more composed after the break and when there was a misunderstanding between Taiwo and Oruma, substitute Di Vaio stole in to control the ball and fire home with a shot that gave keeper Cedric Carrasso no chance.

But Marseille still had a trump card to play and when Les Bleus star Cisse was introduced it turned the game in the hosts' favour.

With 14 minutes still on the clock Cisse unlocked the Monaco backline with a superb pass, freeing Niang who proceeded to play a tidy one-two with the Liverpool man before firing the ball home.

It proved to be the winning goal and Monaco's frustration was compounded in injury time when Lucas Bernardi was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card.

It'd be nice to tie his transfer up in January so we can spend a little bit bigger in January, of course it'll hopefully be irrelevant in the summer, but if we can tidy up our squad in Jan that would be nice.

I agree, but I'm just glad he's back from that horrendous injury.

Djibril Cisse claimed it was a dream come true to play for Marseille as he inspired the Ligue 1 side to victory in his long-awaited return from injury.

France forward Cisse, who is on a season-long loan to Marseille from Liverpool, made his competitive return from a broken leg sustained prior to the World Cup in L'OM's much-needed win over Monaco.

Cisse was the architect of the winning goal on Saturday, setting up Mamadou Niang 13 minutes from time.

"I am very happy, I thought I was only going to get 15 to 20 minutes," the former Auxerre front-man said.

"It is a dream come true to play for Marseille. I played in front of my mother, my wife, my friends. It still isn't the Djibril Cisse that we all know, but it is satisfying.

"I received a great welcome from the exceptional fans. I was like a little boy starting at a new club."

personally i'd say pongolle will never come back to liverpool even though i think he is a decent player but not good enough for liverpool( i admit half of our squad are not good enough for liverpool at the moment)

                  Darren Potter

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he is keen on signing on-loan Liverpool midfielder Darren Potter to a permanent deal next summer.
Potter will return to the starting line-up in his favoured central midfield role at QPR on Saturday after spending recent games on the subs bench because of the form of Karl Henry and Seyi Olofinjana.

Henry misses Saturday's game due to suspension.
McCarthy said: "Potts has been brilliant for us.

"He came in and played out of position and hasn't played recently but his attitude has been great and he has stayed very patient.
"Even after our last away game at Southend, when I told him I realised he must be disappointed, his response was, 'three points gaffer, that's all that matters'.

"That kind of attitude will get him a long way and yes I would still like to bring him in permanently. "Of course that all depends on what Liverpool think, and I doubt anything will happen in January. "It's probably something that we could let lie until the end of the season."

Recreativo have the lead!!!! On-loan Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle - or PonGOAL should that be? The Frenchman skips away from Cannavaro and finishes brilliantly past Casillas.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

                          Still have my doubts though.

I still think he can make it Shaggy lad.
Seems to be growing as a player from what I've seen.

                            Smaching finish.

He`ll make it, but not at LFC.
He`ll be sold in the summer, hopefully after a goos season at Huelva.
