From memory, I think if we win it - it's as financially rewarding as getting to the quarter finals of the Champions League.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostHow much money do we make by playing in the Europa League Lec?
Say we get knocked out at this stage, what have we gained/earned?
Looking back, I took our qualification and runs in the Champions League for granted *sigh*.

Prize money is expressed in Euros and us going to the finals of Europa League would be equivalent to making to the group stage of CL competition and being at least 3rd in your group.Originally posted by magicalbarnes View PostAccording to that spreadsheet Fulham earned £10m as the runners-up. That aint bad at all. we would earn more than that with a similar run, considering out ground is bigger.
Bottom line, CL prize money is almost 4-5 times greater than what Europa League football can offer you and that doesn't include TV rights where revenue generated could be substantial.
For example we made almost 30m euros (Inter the winner made close to 49m euros) last year in Champions League alone and we did not pass group stage..

Im not denying that the champions league is definaltely more lucrative but as they say 'beggars cant be choosers'.
Without a doubt, i would rather us be in the champions leage but the potential 10m - 15m euros from a good europa cup run is nothing to be scoffed at.

You are absolutely right. If we cannot qualify for CL, Europa League is still better than no competition at allOriginally posted by magicalbarnes View PostYeah the figures are expressed in Euros.

the €10 million fulham earned did not include gate money just prize and tv pot. bottomline is not being in the europa league will mean the transfer budget going forward will be reducedBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. As much as I hate the Thursday/Sunday football due to the EL it's needed until we're back in the CL - financially speaking it would be complete madness not to want to be in this especially with the Financial Fair Play Rules coming in; more we can bring in the more we can spend going forwards

can i just point out that last time we finished outside the european places (in 7th) was 1999, and that summer, we brought in:
Hyypia
Smicer
Camara
Henchoz
Westerveld
Meijer
Hamann
say what you will about some but that was one mean defense and smicer may not have hit the heights often, but he was skilled, part of a very good czech side and scored twice in istanbul. not to mention der kaiser.
i do wonder if this europe thing is overstated, particularly when we have cash and an exciting new project getting underway. i can't imagine us finishing outside the european places next year, and i will be disappointed if we go to the wafer cup again. we're looking strong for the future despite what's happened this year.dave of mutilation
