      Bruce bemoans penalty call
Black Cats boss says spot-kick was turning point

Steve Bruce is adamant Liverpool should not have been handed a penalty against Sunderland on Sunday.

Referee Kevin Friend pointed to the spot at the Stadium of Light after John Mensah fouled Jay Spearing, despite the tackle appearing to take place outside the box.

Dirk Kuyt converted to inspire the Reds' 2-0 win, with Luis Suarez providing the second after the break, and Bruce was unimpressed by the dubious penalty call.

"The referee was 10 yards from the incident and the incident clearly took place outside the box," Bruce told Sky Sports News.

"There wasn't a second challenge that tumbled him into the box. If you look at John Mensah when he goes to ground, he's a yard outside when he makes contact.

"It was a mistake from him, he tried to rectify the mistake

"The referee, who's 10 yards away, gives a free-kick for at least 20 seconds. Then obviously the linesman jumps in, from 80 yards away, and gives a decision which obviously was wrong.

"I'm all for getting the decision right. If that decision had been right then you've got no question.

"It's down to big decisions again which, unfortunately for me, they've got wrong."

Bruce believes Liverpool's penalty was the catalyst to their victory, adding: "For me that was the turning point of the game.

"We were well-beaten after that, we have to hold our hands up."

Wonder what that little spat between Skrtel and Gyan was about?

Gyan was just being a big drama queen it seemed...hope he wasn't accusing Skrtel of you know what.

****ing his granny? Living a secret life as a wizard? Suggesting Woody Allen's 'lost it'?

                  Dunno. Possible I spose.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

What a way to spin what he actually said, he totally mugged off the reporter with this question but they aren't showing that here.

Have we taken other Celtic songs? I'm sure they have one about fields of some place while ours is about Anfield.

Yeah, something like that... its an Irish tune originally called "the fields of Anthery", Celtic sing it in that version but its also sung at Irish football and the rugby. It was quite loud there last night

We all know about the Spion Kop in the Boer War but no one seems to know where the name Anfield comes from. What if I told you in means 'The River Field' and is named after a farm in Ireland! Here's the low down on the Anfield scoop. <cut>

Just got back - Its a slow drive back from there. First time up there and I was expecting a good atmosphere with loads of noise. Feck me it was quiet, If we were quiet for the first 20 mins or so. I thought Carroll did all right, as he was clattered into nearly everytime from behind.

One last thing though, I thought Steve Bruce's head was going to explode at one point, I've never seen a head get that red

So Suarez is not seriously injured.

                              Is that safe assumption?

He should have played for Uruguay if he was fit so maybe he faked it so he could concentrate on us instead.
