    Jay Spearing

Before today I like many others had written him off, but I thought he was fantastic today, defended well, covered for the fullbacks and showed good reading of the game to clear the danger a few times. He also got forward well on occasions too; won the penalty, had a decent 20 yard effort.

Have we been a bit quick to write him off? Could he have a future with us?

Still hasn't convinced me and one very good game won't change my mind, but fantastic today and it was good to see.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Had an excellent game today as I said in the post match thread, if he can play to that level regularlly then he certain does have a future with us.

He's not got a future here but he was excellent today and is far, far better than someone like Poulsen.

Aye, Poulsen would never have been anywhere near winning the pen Spearing won.

Watched 5mins of the match again
I have to say he would have to be given a few games and then judge him.

I know it was only one game, be he's played very few games for us in total and very few with regular first team players around him, which has to help. He looked capable today, should he be given more opportunities between now and the end of the season to judge him on? I would say yes. If he puts in some more perfromances like that between now and the end of the season I would say he could have a future, I previously believe he wasn't capable of a performance like he put in today.

He played well today, but he should leave in the summer.

He was OK....no more, no less
But it's an aberration in his overall career with us if everybody's honest. Best for all concerned for him to move on.

He has less than 20 appearences for us, 8 of which came in 'reserve sides', under Hodgson in the Europa League. 6 League games in total (in a strong team), 3 this season against Chelsea, Everton, Sunderland this season, none of those are easy games but he hasn't looked out of his depth in any, and those are difficult games to shine in. I think if he has a strong team around him he could be a useful player, but he's never really had the opportunity. I think we should give him some more starts between now and the end of the season to see how he does.
