I think Jay is absolute rubbish but I've got no problem with the club giving him a new contract for a number of reasons -
For the last 15 years Man U have always had squad players who are loyal, start 10-15 games a season in all comps and 'do a job' and Jay can do that.
It sends out the right message that youth players will get a chance and be rewarded with new deals.
It also sends out the message that local lads will feature, hopefully encouraging the best local talent to sign for us not Everton
If come some time in the future when Jay isn't playing regularly (which he won't be) if he then decides to move on we'll get a bigger fee for him.

If, however we give him a new deal and he is a regular then we are properly ****ed

Also we just need numbers - we aren't going to be able to replace all the players that many deem 'not good enough' in a single summer. Spearing is young, hard working and wants to play for the club, I'd rather have him than someone like Poulsen. He's also likely to be on much lower wages than Poulsen and is young enough to improve, if he does that's a bonus. He won't play many games IMO but is decent and cheap backup option.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

if he's here to stay on to be a John O'Shea type player for us fair enough as a 1st teamer, no thanks!

Personally I am amazed by the decision to give him an extension.

He is just not good enough to be even the squad player don't mind challenging for the starting job.

Low or not he is waste of wages and if we need a home grown player to make our quota I rather we have someone from youth team that has the potential to eventually break into the first team.

If Jay Spearing is a first team regular next season (barring the decimation of midfield through injury) i will eat my left testicle.

I think Spearing is a good canditate to play at left or right back during the full back crisis

I think he should replace Pepe.

To be honest I wouldn't have a problem with him getting a short term deal but three years seems a bit long given his age and progress so far. He might progress but if he doesn't we will need to let him go.

Crazy decision to give Spearing a 3 year contract extension. Distinctly average footballer.

That is what I don't understand.

On what basis did he earn that extension? Had one good game and now he'll be warming the bench and collecting wages for next 3+ years. Strange decision to say at least.

Hasn't he played at right back at reserve or youth level?
