yeh i would agree, dont think he is playing much over there now, although not sure if its injury or loss of form.

thats the bizarre thing - it's like they are rewarding him for his run of games this last month or so.....but it's not like he's done what martin kelly has done - forced his way into the side, stepped up to the level, produced, and made himself a first team candidate....

he's playing because gerrard is injured, shelvey is injured but before he got injured he was getting on before spearing, and finally because some dickhead decided that poulsen would be a good signing - and there is no-one else.
I thought about it a bit more - if we are signing him because we think he's happy to just be part of the squad and come in for 10 games here and there but we also sign charlie adam and say m'vila - then fair enough, but then you have to think that he'd hardly ever play - it just doesn't add up - if we sell poulsen and don't sign a proper centre mid meaning spearing is getting more game time...i'd be very worried.....

To be fair, Kenny threw him straight in at the deep end in his first match against United and has always spoke highly of him since he took over. Jay has only returned from injury himself so we don’t know for sure how much we would have played with everyone fit.

I honestly don’t think it’s a case of the owners trying to appease the locals or the club lacking ambition as suggested by some, I genuinely just think Kenny rates him and thinks he can serve some purpose at the club for now.

I don't have too much of a problem with it to be honest, he doesn't look as though he's capable of being a regular, but he can do a job.

In fairness we aren't going to be able to overhaul both the first team and the squad and get rid of all the players that many people deem aren't good enough this summer, so some of these players will stick around for the time being. Spearing is a player who will be on relatively low wages, who will give his all when he plays and isn't too upset that he doesn't play every week. I'd much rather have him here next season than Poulsen.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I hadn't really seen it quite like that but I think you make a good point.

left back as we have no one
left mid with pace as we have no one
centre mid


all 3 vital - and all three have to be resolved before anything else - when you look at it - last summer we signed Konchesky, Jovanovic and Poulsen - to cover those three positions :doh: a real **** up that was.

Get those three positions sorted

then
sort out centre back
left back cover
another attacking mid
centre foward cover

we have a lot to do

Get 5,6 new starters, move some this-season regulars onto the bench, release the deadwood (Poulsen, Jova, J. Cole, Konk etc), bring couple more on free (e.g Marveaux) and few our youngsters and you have a very good starting 11 and pretty deep squad to choose from.

Box-to-box mid was wishful thinking I realise (not that I thought we would play with 4) but attacking mid/forward we don't have unless you count J. Cole.

Hazard is actually not a winger but more free style (attacking) midfielder. He gravitates frequently to the flank but he is not a true winger.

He got the contract so that we would get some value for him should he be sold in the next couple of years, otherwise doesn't he become a free agent and walk on a Bosman if out of contract?

I thought Spearing was fantastic again today, alot of people have been saying some negative stuff about him but he's put in a couple of fantasic performances in the last few weeks.
