Surely Gerrard comes back in though?

433 with Gerrard, Lucas and one of Spearing/Meireles, and Kuyt as a right sided forward, Suarez from the left and Carroll through the middle?

But then, by the time Gerrard next plays, we'll no doubt have new players anyway

I hope Jay's reward for some fantastic peformances isn't being relegated to 5 or 6th choice. I would like to see him get the opportunity to become first choice which under Kenny I think he has a chance. The more games he plays the better chance of improving as we're seeing at present. I'd like to think and I'm fairly confident under Kennys leadership if you play well you have a more than reasonable chance of keeping the shirt, its all about competition for places. Reputations alone shouldn't be enough anymore.

It's situations like these where having money to spend can be dangerous. If you spend too much bringing in players ala Man City where is the incentive for the youngsters? We need decent first chocie players but I really don't want a squad heaving with expensive recruits. Next season we need to push on and challenge for trophies whilst still finding time to play the likes of Spearing, Kelly, Flanagan etc. Euro league? Yeah ok but not all at once. I think youngsters benefit by playing alongside first teamers, when you play a load of youngsters along side your squad players like we have in the past they can struggle.

Ah well Kenny will get it right I'm sure given the chance.

At the moment I would be looking (to next season) with a view to keep two hard working defensive midfielders, with Gerrard playing the role Meireles plays on the right hand side as a 'wide' player who tucks in and a real wide player on the left, with Suarez and on current form Kuyt up front. Leaving Meireles and Carroll on the bench.

On current form he's got some strong competition for his place from Kuyt - I know Carroll isn't fit yet, but I don't think his price tag alone will get him into the team, which is the way it should be.

If we line up the way I suggested and it's a choice between Carroll and Kuyt on current form Carroll is on the bench

Should be able to get about 4 million for him at least...

Next season we'll have Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Spearing and most likely a summer signing in centre mid....with that in mind, wouldn't it make sense to loan Shelvey out?

Maybe to a QPR or someone?

Maybe Norwich if they come up. Pacheco might be there with him?

Yeah Norwich would be a good Club for him, if they come up as you say.

It's not to say Shelvey would be playing every week at a QPR/Norwich but he would certainly play more regularly there than at Liverpool. Benefits everyone.

Don't think anything's been decided for next season as far as Pacheco goes, prob will be at the end of the season.

Either would be a good idea IMO to loan out a couple of our younger players to, would offer some good experience at a decent level.

Prefer Norwich to QPR but that's only down to Warnock being there who I cannot stand!

In the games they have played together we have been solid through the middle of the park they have protected the back four well, we've conceded very few goals, allowed the fullbacks to get forward and the creative players to do their stuff. I don't want to see Gerrard or Meireles brought back into one of the deep lying positions as I feel it will unbalance things.

By all means look to strengthen the midfield, but I think we need to keep the defensive, hard working players in these positions to be effective rather than a one holding one box to box player type model. This however leaves an interesting question as to where Gerrard plays next season, at the moment I'd envisage him playing the role Meireles currently plays with a more natural wide player on the opposite side.
I actually agree with you and don't think Gerrard playing that position in the final stages of his career is necessarily a bad thing. He can still offer a lot and gives us options. He has lacked that bite in the centre of midfield the past while that we are used to. Im enjoying this Spearing Lucas partnership too much to break it up. Has been instrumental to our form lately. We no longer rely on 2 players to spark our team to life (Gerrard and Torres). With Spearing and Lucas protecting the defence it gives everybody else the chance to get forward and try to get the goals.

I would love to see Pacheco have a year in the prem and Paul Lambert seems to like him a lot. Hopefully Norwich will get promoted and can take him on for another year. He could prove he can make it here with a good showing in the prem.

Time to sell Gerrard, he won't take the team forward, doesn't have the discipline.

                            Chelsea for 30m?

Personally I don't think as many as 4 of our present starters will be regular next year and that would include Kuyt and Raul.

New LB, CB, DM or CM with playmaking skils and one wide player (at least) is what I expect to see.

I think with a few decent signings in the summer we should have a much stronger squad, when everyone's fit as you say you'd have to imagine a few of the players currently starting will be on the bench. Which will be a vast improvement on the start of this season. I don't want to speculate as to who they'd be because we should be picking the team on form. For example on current form it would be difficult to leave Kuyt out of the side...
