Stop putting Suarez out wide. It makes me cringe.

It's one thing playing up front and drifting wide to pick up the ball, it's entirely different starting out wide and being expected to cover that flank defensively. You put him out there and he doesn't have the same freedom he gets offensively. Right now he does whatever he wants, let's keep it that way.Originally posted by Reece View PostEh? No one is considering him a winger, but as someone who can play either side of a front three. That's where a lot of his great work came last night - getting the ball out wide and cutting in.

The system people keep posting up could easily be similar to the Porto one.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostIt's one thing playing up front and drifting wide to pick up the ball, it's entirely different starting out wide and being expected to cover that flank defensively. In that system they play 433, with the front three concisting of a target man (Falcao), an out and out winger (Jay Rodriguez), and someone whose position appears out wide, but is in fact asked to get in the box and go wherever he likes (Hulk).
Anyone who has seen Porto play this year or even just seen their results will know the system works incredibly well. It doesn't restrict Hulk one bit who without doubt is their star man.
Where we to sign an Augero/Lavezzi type player then I think Suarez would be a bit more restricted, but given we'd be signing a similar top class player I think we could all live with that! Would also mean we'd cope better with an injury/suspension to Suarez.
People would maybe ask about the supply to Carroll but throw in Stevie G for Meireles and a top LB and that's already better delivery for Carroll.
If we instead sign an out and out winger, or at least one more renowned for being out wide, then that allows us to give Suarez more freedom.
I see no problems in a 433 system.Forwards.......

Another solid accomplished performance. He clearly is a talented player and it is so satisfying to see Kenny trusting these young guys and believing in their talents.
Whilst Jay may not set the world alight he is Liverpool through and through and fast becoming an invaluable squad member capable of coming into the team and doing a more than decent job."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

In short, you can't play Carroll, Suarez and Kuyt together in that system. Kenny's not dropping Kuyt.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostThe system people keep posting up could easily be similar to the Porto one.

Spearings emergence is quite amazing. I am one of Lucas's biggest fans now and thought he was amazing again last night.....but I do think he had very average seasons and played very poorly on many occasions yet we stuck by him and the rewards are there for all to see.....With Spearing he had a couple of games when he got called up for cups etc and did **** all, A loan period at leicester whch i think he did ok....but stick him with the big boys and make him feel integral to the team and look at him shine.
Well Done Wee Jay......great to see._____________________________________

Hat's off to Spearing. I've completely changed my opinion of him. I wonder how many players would have come through over the years if they were given a run in the team and more importantly the belief in their ability by the manager.
Top performances and well deserved new contract.*************************

that's a good point. apart from your gerrards and fowlers who are exceptional talents, for most young players careers it really is in the hands of the gods. if gerrard was fit would spearing of had the run of games? if we had loads of money and thus a bigger squad, would any of the youngsters get a chance?Originally posted by billy_mac View PostHat's off to Spearing. I think it's important to play youngsters in the amongst the first team. when you play your reserves in the league cup and europa, it can be hard for them trying to make their name playing alongside the likes of poulsen.
I also think we have to be careful with the spending this summer, top quality reinforcements but not so many that the likes of spearing and kelly don't see any action.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

I think the way the season went was exceptionally fortunate for the young lads to come through. With injuries, low expectations, new management there were opportunities there that perhaps weren't there before. This season is very similar to the end of the Souness era when several young players came through. Fair play to Hodgson. He started the ball rolling with the young lads and talked a good game about trimming the squad. He saw we were weak at LB and CM, he just bought crap.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View Postthat's a good point. apart from your gerrards and fowlers who are exceptional talents, for most young players careers it really is in the hands of the gods. if gerrard was fit would spearing of had the run of games? if we had loads of money and thus a bigger squad, would any of the youngsters get a chance?

What you say about signings is dead on. We mustn't fill up the squad with mediocore pro's to give the young lads a chance. Houiller and Rafa were guilty of signing too many squad type players. Money shouldn't be wasted on fees & wages for sqaudies, use the young lads and spend the money on top players. Which does seem the direction we are going.
I'd only buy a LB, CB, CM and 2 wingers in the summer. And a CB i'm not sure of because of Kelly's and Flanagan's development. Top CM needed as Spearing is a very good replacement for me.*************************
