b charlton inadvertedly proves a point

"Alex is arguably the greatest manager ever," Charlton said. "Although I think the fact that Bob Paisley and Liverpool have won the European Cup more times probably grates on him a little bit."

and the fact that paisley didn't worry about his own ego or place in history, just winning for the club, is why he will always be remembered by as the greatest imo

uncle bob won 3 of the feckers ffs. the best managerial record of ANY manager from ANY country in the world EVER

its not ****ing difficult is it?

Nope, he should be recognised as one of the greatest managers ever, however Shankly put in place the foundations for him to win it 3 times. Unfortunately noone can claim that Ron Atkinson did the same for Fergie. He put the foundations in place and then won it, a pretty impressive achievement in my book. As is Rafa winning it after the 'foundations' GH put in place (first team squad-wise in any case..)

Even if i was to remove the red-tinted glasses, there is absolutely no way that Ferguson holds a fcuking candle to Shanks or Sir Bob. The only toss-up IMO is who could be judged the greatest out of these 2 legends, I would go for Bob but he was more my era.

I almost hate fcuking Bobby Charlton as much as I hate Ferguson, not quite, but almost, and he's gaining ground all the time.

As good ol' Uncle Bob used to say, "there were bad times too, sometimes we came second."

There can be no disputing that Ferguson is a great manager, but he'll never emulate what Paisley did. Even if he goes on to win two more European Cups it wouldn't change anything, because Bob did it in 9 seasons.

I'm going to assume you're saying that Rafa laid his own foundations for the CL win because if you're giving GH even a modicum of credit for that you're clearly as deluded as GH is.

Like the Liverpool supporters' club guy said the other day, Rafa won the CL with the worst squad since Shankly arrived, and while that is perhaps a bit of hyperbole, he isn't that far wrong.

the club was in a mess when Rafa arrived, both financial and in terms of playing staff and strength of squad - Houllier left a very unbalanced team. Given what Rafa has had to deal with and competing against the financial might of Chelsea and the scum, if he wins the league in his tenure as Liverpool boss, he will put himself right up there with Bob and Shanks.

Fergiescum has gone on far too long, even those scum fans acknowledge it, and the only thing that has kept him in the job another 5 years after his intended retirement date is vanity, plain and simple. ANd he'll probably just tarnish his reputation even more by staying on.

Actually he seems to be building a pretty good side at the minute. If he can get a quality RB and another good CM then they will have a really good team and squad. People write him off every year but after a blip when he said he was going to retire he has done very well.

Think their current side will do well in Europe as well as they have pacy and skillful forwards with a stable and strong defence.

As much as I dislike Ferguson, to write him off is ridiculous. The Scum are a very good side this season, how they'll cope in a few months time remains to be seen, but for now they deserve to be top of the table.

perhaps looking at their worst positions in the league would be useful, Paisley 5th, Ferguscum 13th. and to think we sacked a manager for finishing 4th. Slur Alex had consecutive finishes of 10th and 13th. Perhaps the press should remember this befor they go after rafa again. yes shankly put the foundations in place but the team that Joe Fagan took to the 4th big ears was Bobs alone, apart from Michael Robinson.

As has been mentioned though Paisley took over a good team. Fergie took over a crock of ****e from Atkinson.
