    Hypothetical question

So, it looks like 99% of fans want Kenny to stay on and I think FSG will give him the rumoured two year contract.

But if he wasn't part of the equation at all, who would you want this summer ?

Personally, I'd fancy Mourinho, but I think he'll stay one more year at Madrid. So that is that out. I think the Dortmund coach will stay on for another year as well. So that leaves Villa Boas...

Mourinho's assistant at Porto, Chelsea and Inter and now on course to win a couple of trophies this season as manager of Porto.

Young, hungry, fluent in English, successful and worth a gamble.

    Who would you want ?

tough one this - Maureen has all the credientials but comes across as an odious, arrogant turd - Villa Boas is a good shout and I certainly wouldn't be adverse to giving him a go, a risk obviously but then who wouldn't be.

I think Villa Boas will want another season to have a crack at the Champions League? I wouldn't be suprised if he tries to emulate Mourinho in winning it then moving on to England, I could see him with the ambition of actually winning the CL with an English side.

Kenny all the way, although Villas Boas would be quite tempting.

In the hypothetical event of us not turning to Kenny, it would be Villas Boas for me - itself a gamble but there's something about him.

        **** that other cunt.

I don't think Mourinho is a long term choice for anyone, and I don't think he'd contemplate coming to us when we don't have CL football or huge piles of money to spend anyway. However, if there were no outstanding long term options he's obviously an excellent manager and I'd grudgingly overlook my disgust for his past actions to see him take the job.

Don't see us attracting any Champions league manager named above that's doing well, untill we're back in the competition and our new owners have proved their worth and ambition.

Kenny is probably the ideal choice to attempt to take the club forward in the near future, especially with new owners, although i know the op said take Kenny out of the picture for the benefit of this thread. oops.

edit: ok, if NOT kenny, controversial i know....but, Rafa, who imo is the other ideal candidate to take us forward as we stand now, why ? because i feel he will have learned a lot, he'll know he has to get on with people, rules will be laid down before he started as to his power and say on certain matters, and i think he'd still come willingly.

One problem though i could see, Steve Clarke, him and Rafa...are they like....Rafa and Maureen ?

Ok, so Kenny offers to step aside in favour of Rafa and only Rafa.

              Thoughts?

But..Kenny is a non entity for the benefit of this thread don't ya know, so no stepping aside going on.

                  No.

Like Rafa but if it's not the King it should be someone new and no previous baggage with the club.

Just my choice as we stand today as a club, still very much in transition, out of Europe, and still with the football world waiting to see what our owners will do.

I see your point with Rafa but he has shown himself to a stubborn sod over the years; but he'd certainly willingly come back to Anfield no question IMO.

I personally don't see FSG going that route simply because I think they'd be very keen to break all of the bad ties from the H&G regime

I'd take a refreshed Rafa, with his vision backed by new owners, with the power in the dressing room shifting back tomorrow.

He'd be my top choice. I'd love to see what he could do with the proper backing he deserved. I think he'd prove even the doubters wrong.

Top manager without a doubt I just think now isn't the time to see him back - if he did appear in the dugout for the start of next season though I've had no problem with that at all.

I just feel we need some serious stability for a season or two, saying that though the question is if not Kenny then really who are the other realistic contenders and you'd have to put Rafa at the top of the list

Rafa got us to within a cunt-hair of winning the title with relatively limited resources and working under two of the worst owners in football history.

I think under FSG he'd complete the job, but for a multitude of reasons it's not going to happen.

I wouldn't rule out a return in 5-10 years or so, though.
