I dunno Mostar, would have to agree with red g on this one.

Corluka and Hutton are mid-tables players at best imo. Bassong, Kaboul and Assou Ekotto are pacy and talented but all 3 can be got at. Wouldn't want any of them in the Liverpool squad anyway.

Big fan of Dawson, and always have been, he's about there only reliable defender imo.
Gallas is 34 at the start of next season and hasn't been the same player since he left Chelsea some years ago now, even at Arsenal i thought he fairly inconsistent.

L.King is our very own version of Agger, only more injury prone which takes some doing and as for Woodgate, beg my pardon, Woody how that bloke is still employed by a Premier League Club i'll never know, any Club in fact.

They also have some decisions to make up top, Pav has long been linked with a move away and he's a cert to go. Wouldn't surprise me if either Crouch or Defoe leave as well to raise funds for fresh blood.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I think they will dip in their coffins and sign few quality players they are lacking and be a tough opponent and challenge for top 4 next year.

      Time will tell I suppose.

The thing is they are below us now (with a game in hand) but we have had our worse start for 50 odd years and the Hodgson half a season handicap wont be here next season

I think we are streets ahead of them and when we strengthen in the summer that gap will still be there

FSG and Kenny have changed the landscape again and I think a lot of those teams above us (nevermind Spurs) will be casting worried glances towards Anfield next season

I'm not sure that we are that far ahead of them, but they have the handicap of Redknapp as manager. They have a half decent set of defenders but his refusal to turn them into a coherent unit really holds them back. You can get lucky playing a purely attack minded game but in the long run you will get caught out.

I know Barcelona seem like a purely attack minded team but the way they pursue the ball when out of possession is something you don't often see from the likes of van der Vaart or Modric and certainly isn't part of the way Spurs set up as a team.

That said perhaps given the improvement under Kenny I am underestimating our squad. I agree that with a good summer we could be a worry for several of the top four at least. It will be interesting to see what United do in the summer especially.

Once we trouble them at the top we will be there for 5 years without many changes to the squad which makes our situation so much better.

                      Glen: He's made players smile

Glen Johnson believes getting the players smiling again has been the key to Kenny Dalglish's success in his second stint as Liverpool manager.

The Reds have scored in every league match since Dalglish returned to the dugout and a 3-0 victory over Newcastle at the weekend lifted them into a European spot.

Johnson thinks Liverpool are playing their best football since he arrived in 2009 - something he attributes to a new spirit in the dressing room.

"Since I've been here we've had good and bad times but with the last few games you could say this is the best we've played," the full-back told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Kenny has just brought the belief back, let the lads enjoy themselves and training has been good. The lads are happy day-to-day and look forward to the games.

"He's given us a bit of confidence and put a smile back on the lads' faces.

"We've got a great bunch of lads here. On and off the pitch we work hard for each other and off the pitch we're enjoying life with each other as well. It's a good group of boys."

Sunday's victory saw Liverpool leapfrog Tottenham into fifth place, and though Spurs have a game in hand, Johnson is confident he and his teammates can hold on to secure European football next season.

"There is definitely a feeling in the dressing room that we can stay there," he said.

"It bodes well for next season. With the confidence we've got now we'll try and finish the season strongly and start where we leave off next season."

Maxi Rodriguez, Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez were the scorers against Alan Pardew's men.

Kuyt's penalty was his 14th strike of the season - and his eighth goal in his last seven league outings.

Johnson added: "We've been laughing and joking about it because normally he shoots from anywhere. But he's a fantastic player. He's been brilliant for Liverpool over the years and I'm sure he'll continue to be.

"He's a great player to have in a squad. He can play on the left, the right and up front. He does a job for the team and wherever he plays he wears his heart on his sleeve."

The Newcastle clash was Johnson's first appearance since pulling his hamstring against West Brom on April 2.

In his absence 18-year-old John Flanagan has shown maturity beyond his years.

And Johnson said: "It's been brilliant. Obviously John, Jack Robinson and Kells (Martin Kelly) who came in before have all been fantastic and it's great for Liverpool Football Club to have players like that coming through.

"I feel good - it's fantastic to be back and the hamstring feels good now."
