In the game I watched he played well. Newcastle were much quieter on the right in the second half after he swapped with Flanagan.

Throughout the first half, yes. After Johnson picked him up, not at all.

You'd think such a good player like that would have no problem getting past such a **** player like Johnson who gets skinned numerous times every game.

A bit of a strange performance - not a s fluid as I would have liked and gave away too many set pieces in dangerous positions. Against a better team we would have struggled today, however it is great when you do not play too well and win 3 nil.

Just got back from the game, my first ever and I couldn't of asked for more. An easy win in beautiful sunshine.

Newcastle offered nothing apart from having a go at young Flanagan (good player who kept his head after the yellow card). I thought his yellow was a bit harsh as it was his first foul and you could see for the rest of the half that they were doing their best to get the young lad sent off or to the point where he wouldn't dare tackle. Great move by the King to swap him and Johnson for the second half.

The only other time they troubled us was a period towards the end of the first half where they got quite a few freekicks and corners and to be honest we should of possibly been out of sight by then if a few final balls had been executed properly. There were a few times where we would of been clear through if Raul and Dirk had got their final ball right.

As for our lot, well Pepe may as well of sat up with me. As someone else mentioned Lucas and Spearing are forming a good partnership and Spearing especially impressed and was unlucky in the first half with his shot. Raul and Maxi were steady away but then they didn't really need to do a great deal. Dirk worked his socks off as usual and Suarez is one hell of a player although he didn't really seem with it in the first half but boy did he come alive in the second. He's a strong fella as well as he showed with his battling to win the pen. The third goal was just sublime, great move. One thing I did notice throughout the game was, the battling, the throwing themselves in the way of everything, corners, freekicks, passes etc.

All in all a fantastic day and the most memorable bit, well it has to be when You'll Never Walk Alone started up before the game. Hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention, goose bumps ran up my arms and a tear came to my eye. Amazing, truly amazing.

Dalglish happy to silence Toon

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was pleased his side overcame the 'Andy Carroll factor' to record a 3-0 victory over the striker's former club Newcastle at Anfield.

All the pre-match build-up had centred on the £35million club record signing, who left St James' Park in acrimonious circumstances in January, facing the Magpies for the first time.

However, he only made a 20-minute substitute appearance having recovered from the knee injury which kept him out of the recent win over Birmingham - although he was targeted for abuse from the travelling fans all afternoon.

But the players on the pitch concentrated on the job in hand as Maxi Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before the home side took control in the second half.

"I think we deserved to win but it was a difficult game for us"

Dirk Kuyt, with his eighth goal in seven league matches, scored from the spot after Luis Suarez was pulled down by Mike Williamson and the Dutchman repaid the favour by laying off for the Uruguay international to score the third.

The win moved Liverpool above Tottenham into fifth and in position to qualify for the Europa League.

Dalglish said: "After we took the lead they put us under pressure with set-plays and crosses but I thought we coped with it pretty well.

"Second half we tightened up a bit and we caught them twice for two goals and I think we deserved to win but it was a difficult game for us.

"I didn't expect to get a stroll in the sunshine.

"With the Andy Carroll factor as well it maybe added some spice for them.

"I don't think it (the abuse) will be put to bed. When he goes to St James' next season he will get it again.

"He is a young boy but he has broad shoulders."

Carroll's fellow January arrival Suarez again took the plaudits, with Dalglish expressing his delight at the form of the 24-year-old.

The Reds boss added: "Luis is always getting in there and is always a threat and it fell kindly for him in the box and he stroked it away.

"It is just reward for the work he put in on the pitch."

But Dalglish played down suggestions Liverpool could catch Manchester City in fourth.

When it was pointed out the Champions League was not out of reach he said: "Neither is the bar but I'm not going to get there right away. We will keep going and see."
