    As someone once said

if you stand still in this league you go backwards
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Our current team is not going to be good enough. Dont stay stagnant, buy 5 more players and go for the title.
If we want to compete for the very top we need to improve the squad just like other 5 teams will.

I know we need players but I wanted people's opinion on where we'd end next season if we bought no-one else and relied on our current squad (plus any new youngsters).
I think we would finish top 6 with what we have available at the moment. We lack the depth to go a full season, the young players who have came in and done brilliantly would have been watched and any weaknesses exploited, look at Insua or Kelly to a degree before his injury.

Our first eleven is a match for any team as shown in the second half of the season but to challenge for the title, you need match winners from the bench and that is the one area were we are lacking. We have no game changers who can come on and make the difference. We lack a little variety when it comes to breaking down teams that sit deep.

Further, although Kenny has done better away from from home, our away form still needs dramatic improving.

To be fair, we have shown that we are capable of beating anyone on our day and are capable of putting a good run together. So hypothetically if we could field our strongest 11 every weak then there is no reason why we wouldn’t be challenging with our current crop of players. We clearly do need strengthening in certain areas though which no doubt Kenny will do over the summer.
the problem is we have shown we can lose to those near the bottom. This has been a problem for a long time and points to a weakness in the squad

remember wolves have proven they can beat the top teams however its likely they are not good enough to stay in the division never mind win it.

Maybe so, but the difference with Wolves is that despite these big scalps they are still near the bottom, but since Kenny has taken over we’ve still accumulated as many points as the top teams despite losing to the likes of Blackpool.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

ok Kenny thinks we need to strengthen so imagine we do.

That’s pretty lame indeed Marsh, especially from one who often promotes healthy discussion on these boards.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt though and assume you haven’t read the original post properly.

But of course we need to strengthen , you’d be a fool to suggest otherwise, and of course we will strengthen over the summer. If we went into the new season with the exact same squad, we’d likely struggle although not necessarily for the reasons being suggested so far. My biggest concern with the current squad is that if Suarez or Pepe got injured, we’d be seriously ****ed. I don’t buy into this riding on the crest of a wave crap and don’t agree with the poster who says to ignore our current run. Why would you ignore it, it’s the only barometer we have to use so far? What’s the alternative, go back to assuming that Kenny will struggle as he’s be out of the game too long and he too is actually riding the crest of his own wave?

The original poster asked the question, how we would fare with everyone in our current team fit and raring to go. It’s a hypothetical question as obviously everyone won’t be fit, but so too is the suggestion of no new players bought, neither will happen. For the sake of this discussion, we can assume that we can add a fully fit Carroll, Stevie G, Dan Agger and Aurelio to our current first 11 who are already playing quite well. In this scenario and bearing in mind how well we are already doing without then, I see no reason whatsoever to suggest that we couldn’t at least reflect this seasons scorelines next year and would be very surprised if we didn’t better them. That’s all I’m trying to say.

I hope this makes sense, as I’ve got a new boss today so mightn’t get on later to elaborate further. I’m actually writing this out fast in Outlook to C&P, so excuse the tone if it seems a bit curt as I’ve had to rush through it as quickly as possible.

See how much quality we actually have in the squad! I don't think we are as ****ty as some make out...

We will bring in new players so it's moot.
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

it didnt appear curt to me so no worries.

i do like debate but i wouldnt sit and debate whether 5 is greater than 4. that sounds silly i know. As fans we tend to think we are better than we are. I remember sitting with manc mates and saying james was better (or would turn out better) than schmeichel and all we need is ince to add some bite in midfield and the title is ours. Looking back it was bollocks.

i may have misunderstood the intent of the origonal post but i thought its aim was that this current team could challenge for the league type.

However i just cant see that it will, we want it to yes. We havent won the league for a long time for one reason and thats we havent been good enough. There are many reasons why we were not good enough including our ****ish previous owners.

we also look at beating the teams we have since the King came back as proof we can win the leauge. Again we have been losing to those lower down for a long time too, this points to a problem with our squad or squads.

We need a better squad it needs more quality and depth. Even then am not sure it would win the league next year ( i am much more optomistic than i was this summer for obvious reasons) the one unkownn thing is whether we can have the mentality of winners.

This is where arsenal fall down and where the scum seem able to draw from to do what they do.

hope my reply isnt too curt its not meant to be, i just dont want us as a club to paper of the cracks of a squad that isnt good enough for what ever reason.

I just thought I'd keep in in line with the original posters question about how'd we'd fare with a fully fit team next year without any transfers.
