"Not because we especially wanted Suárez to get his comeuppance – and boy has he just got it"

Comeuppance huh. Speaking our minds now, are we.

Oh, as in the English press are basically admitting they want a pantomime villain, someone to distract them from the English team's own shortcomings and actually having a serious discussion about it.

I read it as the author saying the press didn't specifically want that, not that they did.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
          Mine angry and defrauded young?

The tone of the piece suggested to me that it was "published [it] with a degree of relish".

            It's probably just me.

At which point he'll have his next brain fart and be the object of public vilification all over again. 34 matches banned for us in four years, and another seven for Ajax. This isn't a one off event.

The fact is that we can kid ourselves that he's worth £80m plus, but he isn't. He's an £80m talent with a minus £40m character.

Opposing fans are loving this as he is a player you can't help but hate if he doesn't play for your side, they are revelling in it once again. I've found if you don't respond they get more wound up. Yet alas I see of lot of reds once again trying to defend him or say its not fair etc etc. Paisley would have kicked him out. A true gentleman. I'm tired of him mate. He is guilty. The fallout is what it is.
Agree with this and pretty much all of your other posts since the ban was announced.

I'd still have him. There's no way I'm castigating him for what he's done. It hurts us but love is unconditional. Some of you have no heart or are too selfish.

Head says sell him if a good bid comes in. Cash in on him now before he does something else and gets a permanent ban and is worth nothing. Ditch the Suarez circus and all the chaos that comes with it. I have massive doubts a big bid is likely now though, who'd take that risk for such a massive fee?

Heart says keep him and this will all be forgotten about by Christmas. If we can stay in touch by the time his ban is over then we can have another title push. A league title would mean that much more with Suarez contributing.

Starting to lose the will to care at all in all honesty though . What will be, will be

Maybe, but it's not worked to date, which indicates that it's not an effective form of deterrent for him, which indicates that it's a deeper seated issue than a blunt punitive punishment is likely to resolve.

                          So what's it actually achieving?

Very little from where I'm sat.

It sends out the message that "FIFA will not tolerate this behaviour" which is what most were wanting so it achieves exactly what FIFA want- to save face. But it most likely achieves very little in terms of correcting luis' behaviour. However, it might force him to work harder at the rehab.
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'd at least want some contrition from Suarez before we make our decision to keep or sell. Him hiding behind paranoia and bias won't wash for a lot of fans this time. At least an admission of a problem, an apology and a desire to seek real help will be fine with me. None of that though and I think we have to seriously consider his exit. We absolutely should be fighting the club match ban regardless though - has massive ramifications for either direction we go in.
