I think we'll get another season out of him. If there's no improvement we will sell and buy Sturridge.

It doesn't really matter. With him we can be midtable with moments of brilliance. Without him we can be midtable without anything for the highlights reel. Doesn't make much difference either way, except the former is a bit more interesting to watch as a fan.

Liverpool have always had a superstar forward at the club. Keegan, then Dalglish, Rush, then Fowler, then Owen, then Gerrard, Torres and now Suárez. It would be interesting who the next one would be if he left (God forbid). Sterling to step up to the mark? With no Champions League it'd be hard to attract a world class striker. Would be weird to think that we'd have no stand-out player.

Didn't we attract Suarez while we were not in the CL? And he was hardly unknown, its just that no one else wanted him for some reason.

Fair point but is there anyone out there like that at the moment?

After his "Bite" incident and suspension he got(as well as based on his reputation from WC) he was seen as a very risky proposition by big clubs and no one really knew if he would be able to replicate similar type of success at Ajax and NT in a much better league.

That said, Ajax also was looking to sell (but not for cheap) and Suarez at the same time was looking for a different type of challenge and timing of our interest happened to be perfect.

                                Forgot about this:

Redknapp said he dispatched numerous scouts to watch Suárez at Ajax before Liverpool paid £22.8m for him but was informed that the player was not adept at leading the line and was too similar to Rafael van der Vaart, for whom Spurs were seeking a partner rather than a replacement. Ultimately Spurs made failed offers for others strikers, including Fernando Llorente and Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi. "We kept looking at [Suárez] but people thought he couldn't play up as a striker," said Redknapp.

"They said he's like Rafa [van der Vaart] and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem. We were looking for someone to play up front with Rafa. People said he couldn't do that, he drifts and comes deep. But he played up front on his own the other night [against Fulham on Monday] and he was fantastic."

That rug really tied the room together.
