I wonder why people care so much about "PR". What's the real, tangible effect of bad PR? I just can't think of a single time a club's bad PR decision over a player incident like this actually harmed that club.

It harms the club in terms of reputation, publicity, attracting new fans and sponsorship etc, as well as that a negative image hinders us in terms of appealing against punishments dished out the club and our players. It comes in to a lot of things.

Money. It makes a difference, of course it does. Why would sponsors want to associate themselves with a club if it's going to bring them negative PR? It might not drive them all away but it makes the club harder to sell and so lowers the price.

I get that logic. I can't think of a single time it's actually happened though. I guess that could be that all clubs give in. If it's enough of a money difference, they very well might.
