I was gutted when Torres left, but I'm actually quite ambivalent about the prospect of Suarez leaving. I've never entirely warmed to him (as per my earlier comments about his behaviour in this thread). We've had one great season from him, but his behaviour is a liability and has seriously damaged the reputation of the club. There's no doubt that he is a world class talent, but I don't really buy this "he only bites people, punches people, makes potentially racist comments, moans about everything, and throws himself on the floor at the slightest contact because he cares so much". It's far too much like parents who defend their child's appalling behaviour by claiming that it's because he / she is just so clever that they need to express themselves.
If he does leave and we spend the money sensibly, I think we can come out of this with an improved team, and a better chance of getting back into the top four. After all, we keep finishing behind Everton, and I don't think that they have better individual players than us in most positions. They're just a better team unit, and I think that Brendan can develop that here, but with some proper flair players thrown in (ones that don't get banned regularly).
Edit: And before any smartarse points out that I have a Suarez avatar, it's because I thought what he did on that occasion was funny, not because he's my hero. And not because I think that his diving is acceptable. Does that cover all the bases?Last edited by James P; 30-05-13, 03:31 PM.Comment

I think we're totally screwed if Suarez leaves. There is absolutely no chance we'd get a top four spot after finishing 7th and losing our best player. It was already unlikely WITH Suarez, but without him it seems impossible to me.
It'll be another season to write off before it even begins IMO. Can't keep taking one step forward, two steps back, but I'm afraid we'll be stuck in this situation of losing our best players every summer if we can't make drastic progress.Comment

He's not leaving because of where the team is, he's leaving because he's become the FA's and media's favourite whipping boy. And if he hadn't given them the bullets, they wouldn't be able to shoot at him.
As far as the issue of losing our best player goes, I go back to my Everton comment. It's about the team, not an individual.Comment

Said you wanted proof. Right, I said Ayre might be getting the boot and someone was definitely replacing him, who already works for the club and has experience of being an MD. This wasn't who I was told by, but it just backs up what I said.
