Spurs generated more revenue than us and eclipsed us commercially on Moores' watch I'd say. He was a totally inept owner and we are where we are mostly due to his total ineptitude and inactivity as an owner. He was beyond poor.Spurs went past us in the dying days of H&G and then we wasted a small fortune on "the best of British" we're improving our squad but we probably need 1 or 2 genuine first teamers before the start of the season.
If we get them and don't loose the likes of Suarez we'll be a good position to improve on last season again.Comment

What if that price is 60m? Should we sell then?Maybe ny post was a little OTT but what really ****ed me of was what Rodgers said about the Suarez thing "until we get an offer that is his true value there's nothing to consider". That to me sends out a message to the other clubs that he is for sale at the right price when infact ge should have said not for sale at any price.Comment

Just clumsy wording, hes still learning how to handle the media. People read far too much into quotes.Maybe ny post was a little OTT but what really ****ed me of was what Rodgers said about the Suarez thing "until we get an offer that is his true value there's nothing to consider". That to me sends out a message to the other clubs that he is for sale at the right price when infact ge should have said not for sale at any price.
Or in come cases people read far too much into badly translated quotes taken out of context.Comment

In his defence (and apologies for my earlier pissier post). He did say that every player has a value but that doesn't mean we'd sell at that value.Maybe ny post was a little OTT but what really ****ed me of was what Rodgers said about the Suarez thing "until we get an offer that is his true value there's nothing to consider". That to me sends out a message to the other clubs that he is for sale at the right price when infact ge should have said not for sale at any price.
I think the club are playing a blinder here with Suarez. Brendan seems to have got control of his tongue somewhat of late too.A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.Comment

I think we have to be realistic though and accept that if a bid comes in over £50M etc.... we will consider it, you'd be mad not to when that sort of money is involved. It doesn't however mean we have to accept it (unless there is a clause).
Too much being read into each and every word that is being said.
There must be some understanding between the club and Suarez now. Nothing of note has been said on it since he arrived in Australia. Club are keeping pretty quiet on it. Maybe they've told him they won't sell to Arsenal but require a bid, say in excess of £50m for him to be sold abroad
For me though, we should have made a couple of qulaity signings already. We are going to find it even more difficult to do so if we've sold our world class player and also clubs knowing we've got £50m in our pocketComment

As we saw with Micky Ryan, quality players to non CL teams is a very hard sell.

Yeah. I agree with that. Very much a one step forward and two steps back owner. Rafa was a plus, expansion of the main stand, he was obviously a huge fan of the club and he financially supported where he could but the two big issues in his tenure were the stadium and the sale and both were utterly bodged.
Still, at least he didn't appoint Hodgson!A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.Comment

Even harder sell if you're trying to sign them when you've sold a world class player (one of a couple you have).
Think a few journos have intimated that LFC are finding it difficult to attract the top class players due to lack of CL footballComment

I don't think Spurs have overtaken in revenue terms, certainly not in the last 12 years that Deloitte have been publishing their money league. They have significan backing from ENIC though I believe plus they haven't been hamstrung by large debt/interest payments.

I think people have to understand exactly where the club has been going over the years
There was a time when we were the best run club in the country (if not Europe) we were innovators, ahead of the game
Then something happened.. whether that was the club thinking they didnt have to do anything more to stay ahead of the game or it was something else I dont know
Heysel caused the club to withdraw into its shell and become insular, essentially reinforcing the business beliefs and models that had gone before, this helped teams slowly close the gap. Hillsborough decimated the club of that there is no doubt, the club rightly perceived there was bigger concerns than football and business at that time and it took an age to recover. By which time teams like United etc.. had moved ahead businesswise and on the pitch. Moores was playing constant catch up with them, and then he made his fatal error of selling to Hicks & Gillett
They took us to the brink of oblivion as a business and I think FSG have been trying to turn it around since. Even if Hicks & Gillett hadnt happened it wouldnt be an easy job but it is doubly difficult following their shambles
I think FSG are doing ok in a difficult job, yeah I have some gripes and criticisms over some of the things they have done but the job is an enormous one. They arent damaging the club by any means but it is slow progress imo. I personally think it might be too big a job for FSG but time will tell on that scoreBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."Comment
