Thanks to the support shown by Kenny, I think Suarez will tear the opposition apart this season. Without that support I think he'd have been looking to leave.

He criedLuis Suárez is giving right now a new and long interview to VTV, the Uruguay sports channel. He looks much more relaxed and open than usual--he is normally quite tense when interviewed, but in this case he looks more at ease. He has been chosen the captain of Uruguay Olympics team, and he seems to be enjoying this new opportunity with Uruguay in Great Britain, starting next week.
He started talking about the beginning of his career in Nacional, but soon he turned to his first year with LFC. He said obviously there were both good and bad things. He stressed the fact that the team got to the final of 2 out of 3 tournaments they played, but obviously they failed in the most important goal, the Premier + Europe. He explained that during the summer several players were brought to the club and said that "the manager had to make all of them into the team, and that was not easy". At the same time, he remembers how Liverpool had a record of woodwork and missed penalties (he laughs when he remembers that he "opened the missed penalty season" when he failed in his very first match), and recalls how they would talk in the dressing room about how unlucky they were. He also remarked that perhaps in some of the games against smaller teams Liverpool would sometimes feel that the match was "already won" because in the pitch it was appsrent they were in full control of the ball and the match, and because of that they might sometimes lose focus, and that was really bad.
Then he referred to the Evra incident. He did not say anything about the content of the issue, but referred to the personal side of it. He seems to have suffered it much more than he showed during the months of the episode. He declares he suffered the Evra issue "only with his family". He says that because of his temperament he is not used to showing his feelings, so what he lived during the trial nobody but his family knows. He says that he cried those nights and that only his wife lived through it with him.
Regarding the "political" dimension, the interviewer mentioned that many people said that Manchester politics was behind the episode. He does not comment directly on it, but confirms that "within Liverpool" (the club) many people was convinced of that". And adds that Liverpool had directly asked him not to speak in public during those months---and adds that there were "other players" who were desperate to talk, (e.g. Kuyt), but Liverpool would not allow anyone to speak.
He says that he also got a lot of support from Seb Coates and his girlfriend. He insisted he had to endure a lot of pressure, but he could not make public his real feelings during the trial days. That he had to go and play without having practiced because he had to go to trial waking up at 7 am and coming back in the evening without being able to practice with the team. And when the verdict was close he was really nervous (I think he said "desperate") and then the verdict was postponed even more, which only added pressure and stress.
Regarding the handshake incident, he confirms he was "totally decided to shake hands" himself, that the issue for him was already in the past. On top of that, he says that he had made a commitment both to his wife and to Kenny Dalglish that he WILL shake hands --and he sounds very natural now when he stresses that he had made up his mind and had no problem to shake. But then he says that "again everything was arranged by the TV"... He suggests something unexpected happened at the moment of the shake. He seems to believe that when he got close to Evra the Manchester player lowered his hand and he believed Evra did not want to shake. He says that tv images were shown in a way that made no justice to him, but he added that "Manchester Utd. commands the politics of sports in England" and he felt "that you have to accept, there's no option".
When referring to the final with Chelsea he said that Drogba is immense and "a beast", and about the Carling he says that some people asked whether he was nervous ("a chicken") and this is the reason he did not take any penalty, but he remembered all the difficult penalties he took during his career, and explained what happened: that he felt a cramp in the right leg when he was celebrating Kuyt's goal, so the manager told him he would only take a penalty if there was a 6th one.
Then he praises Steven Gerrard and says he is a remarkably "low profile" and humble man, especially considering all he achieved and the fact that he is a world class player. He says that Gerrard uses to counsel him and he pays a lot of attention, and remembers for instance that before the infamous match away with ManU Gerrard came to him before the match and said "You are one of the best in the world, go out there and show it, and do not think about the other things". Suárez says he will always remember these words.
The interview included most of his goals with Uruguay. So far in his career (Nacional, Ajax, Liverpool and national team) he has 191 goals in 338 games.

My blood boils everytime the Evra incident is mentioned. Hearing Danny Mills on BBC Breakfast the other day say that it was a proven allegation. I'd happily excrete on Evra after eating a bowl full of chilies.

Don't worry about that mate.
I've two close mates - both huge Reds - who read The Sun, even after being made aware of the Hillsborough lies. And to take the piss they even talk about the transfer gossip and articles in it to me. Tried to educate them but they want their Page 3 fix though and mindless stories.
