When he was at the Echo, people liked him because he was perceived to be a reliable source of information and he stuck up the for the club.

When he was at the NOTW, people disliked him because he was perceived to be an unreliable source of information and he got stuck into the club, plus he worked for the Sunday Sun.

Now he is at the Telegraph, people are more ambivalent towards him.

I guess people often judge football journos by how often they agree with their own opinions, rather than the quality of writing, investigation, interpretation, analysis and all the other stuff you should judge journalists by.

Ian Herbert is - as usual - spot on, but I'm sure The Mirror has fickled itself into knots.

Carragher's article is decent but surprised it's in there after the headline the Daily Mail parped t'other day.

It's how a lot of people judge many things. It's certainly how George Osborne chose his experts on economic policy.

Yes, it's interesting but difficult to know why it's happened. Perhaps the club really has got its PR act together. Or maybe commonsense has broken out like measles. Or maybe it's just a useful way to keep the story going, stoke the controversy by switching angles, talking up one side, then the other. Maybe there's an influence of social media.

I imagine they all play a part.
