There's nothing wrong with being optimistic and besides we didn't do too badly when Suarez wasn't available last season.

I totally agree with the first half. I wouldn't put too much faith in the second half of what you're saying but it's certainly something we can hold on to.

Nobody apart from some crappy translations has said he is leaving, club says no, agent says nothing has happened.

I didn't worry when Keegan left, Kenny came in, when Rushie left, Aldo, Beardsley and Barnes came in, Torres left, Suarez arrived.

Several players at least as important as him in the past 15 years. Hyppia, Carragher, Reina, Alonso..

The only reason I would be worried about him leaving is it could make us less attractive to potential signings.

Also in the past I'd be worried about how we spent the money but we're getting better at that on recent evidence.

Sturridge appears to be either superb or totally ****e depending on what mood he's in.More good than bad so far but I really wouldn't want to be pinning my scoring hopes largely on him over the course of a full season.

Well he is as good as gone, we all know how these situations end, it's now when, not if. Stevie Gerard's situation was different for obvious reasons. Suarez needs to clarify the situation directly if he has as much respect as he says he has.

And why reference Owen (no fee so that means we're in a better position) but not Torres (fee that was largely wasted)? Either both are relevant or neither.

There's no point selectively seizing on qualitative datasets that can't take the strain you seek to put on them. You're hoping it might work out, as do I. I think Rodgers has a decent chance of making it work. All I'm saying is let's not pretend there's any reliable way to predict that's probably what will happen, just like Nige's optimism that Suárez was misquoted now sadly looks like an unanswered prayer.

The reason Owen was used? It was a positive spin on a less than satisfactory situation to highlight the fact that we are under better management and won't be taken over the barrel by Real who in both instances are the courting club. Torres I hope was lesson learnt by new owners on transfer market which I would surprised if repeated again but we still got 50M from Chelseat.

I'm sure most are under no illusion that there is a reliable way to predict the variables of football, if there was FSG would be adopting it. I was merely highlighting that as there is no way we could know if Countinho and Sturridge will maintain their form, the same could be applied to Suarez.

Further, with Suarez in the team we finished 8th & 7th; however illuminating he was on the pitch he did not manage to propel us to even the Champions' league. Call it naive optimism if you will; however, I draw a huge amount of positivity from the fact that playing together no-one scored more than Sturridge, no-one created more than Countinho, both are young and could develop a even better partnership in the coming season. It may not happen but compared to December or last summer we are in much better position to cope with the loss of Suarez.

We cannot replace Luis like for like but we can invest the funds from his sale into 2 to 3 high quality players that will improve our first 11 and our squad overall and make us more competitive.

Hate to see him go as Luis is a special player but we can turn this into a very good piece of business if we buy smart in the transfer window.

One of the imponderables here is that we have no way of knowing how prolific our attack will be when Sturridge and Coutinho are played as our main threats over enough matches so that opponents can work out ways to negate them.

Losing Suárez is a risk for our attacking play, there's no getting away from it.

I also worry that Sturridge seems somewhat injury prone.

As if, I mean I mentioned it months ago and was pulled apart by someone quoting off some fecking physio website suggesting he rarely gets injured. I'm with you, he seems be carrying niggling injuries more often than not. A concern.
