Infamy
Kenneth got it spot on, they always sign good players, but just because they spend £85m, doesn't mean they will claw it back with shirt sales and marketing.
Wonder how much they've earned from Kaka these last couple of years.Comment

Bale isn't going to shift the same number of shirts as Ronaldo. No way.
I don't think he has the "look" of a global superstar either.
So £85m is vastly overinflated IMO. He is very, very good but below the likes of Messi and Ronaldo.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

The transfer fee would be a part of the marketing. If they signed him for £50m no one would care that much. He would be just another very expensive player signed by Real.
If they signed him for £85m then the whole world would take notice. It would be much easier to market him.Stop the cyberhate

Let's assume Bale costs £85m and signs a five-year £200k-a-week deal, he'll cost Madrid £137m in fee and wages over the life of his contract.
They will not recoup that through Bale shirt sales and using his image for marketing purposes. Not a chance.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

They probably make a profit on Kaka every year or else they would have sold him IMO.
If you include the transfer fee and wages then they probably made a big profit so far.Stop the cyberhate

They could make a absolute fortune on the side loaning him out for ad campaigns for zoos.
And he as his own trade marked celebration.Comment

Well, I think they would recoup that easily. They would make sure that they get 100% of the image rights.God love you Arn but you're being bat-**** mental again.
