I wonder if Sanchez would be more willing to come here if we were keeping Suarez?
Luis Suárez

Sanchez is a similar player but less prolific. He does seem to cover more ground than Suarez though. As a type, he's the closest to Suarez as we could find.
But losing Suarez will be a massive blow to us. We'll adapt, but his genius has won us a lot of games last year. Are we winning?Comment

This is a post from Charly, which I find interesting, regarding the FFP fSelling Luis for 75.m. could be our get out jail card regarding FFP, we can spend a bit but still end up in profit from the sale. The interesting thing with FFP is that when you buy a player it only costs you a % of the cost in the first year, as the fee is divided by the contract length.
If we sold Suarez for £80m, and say he has only got £10m left on his original cost, then we get a profit of £70m in that year.
So that on its own would offset a huge amount of our deficit from the past couple of years, but would instead allow us to spend a lot more than £70m on players without it harming the years accounts (obviously it pushes the higher expenditure into subsequent years and the higher cost of wages, but that's a problem for another season).
My point is we wont necessarily spend the exact same amount on replacements, as the accounting does not work that way.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.Comment

At least we know he's going now and not at the end of the transfer window. I'm sure we'll have several potential targets and plenty of time to get one/some of them.Comment

Aye. If we assume we get around £70m for him, that's an increase of £30m on anything others were prepared to offer us last year, plus his goals got us back into the CL during that extra year too. While it is a terrible shame to be losing one of the worlds top players, Suarez does come with a significant downside too and that he's leaving us for another league after 3 1/2 years (well 3 if you allow for the suspensions), and a potentially enormous fee, does soften the blow quite a bit.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

That'll be nearly all of em then, given the same offer as Suarez,
Do people not realise that if any of our players had Suarez talent and drive , they too would be on their way to Spain, Chavski, Or Citeh!
This isn't about anyones desire to wear our shirt, and doesn't mean at all that any of the players left are any more faithfull to the club than Suarez. imo.(apart from the obvious one, and he nearly left once)
Love the club. Enjoy the players.

We were cutting it pretty close, I think that's fairly accepted, we posted losses of about 100 million over two years I think? Some murmurings in january about us not having the funds to complete the Konoplyanka deal cause of FFP as well. But even if we are close or not this sale should be a massive benefit regarding the rules.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.Comment
