Whether the fee being discussed is sterling or euros doesn't make a difference?

    It kind of does

Yes it does. Only a fool would write a buy out clause at their fair estimation of a player's value. You write them ahead of that to give you a choice as to whether or not to sell at fair value, or as you would hope, above that.

Why do you think Spanish buy-out clauses are so high?
      Really?

I guess it might make a difference to a speculative conversation about how much he's being sold for, but it makes no difference to how much he's actually being sold for.

Presumably so they don't get triggered.

I'd chuck £30m at Mat Hummels and trigger his release clause

                      Unless it's Arsenal that bid.

Also your wording suggested that you could've understood otherwise...

God forbid anyone on a football forum uses a speculative conversation as the basis of their discussion

I'd rather we spent the money on 2-3 big name and rep players than go all Spurs and buy loads of ****e.

Whatever the ins and outs of the deal are my main feeling is one of sadness.

Suarezs a genius. He is also a complete dick head. But the joy he gave us during the last few seasons was amazing. Great to see us spending money but with every signing I keep thinking....if only Suarez was linking with him.

                            Bit of a maudlin post...sorry.

Now going back to my wine!

He's a dickehead, but he's the best footballer I've ever seen in the flesh and for the reason unless we replace him with Ronaldo or Messi, it'll be a step down
