I will say regardless of his bans etc... I still want to see him playing for us next season, players like Suarez are not easily replaced.

There's some truth in players wanting to play for clubs in the CL but the stuff about us being pilfered by rich clubs is far more tenuous IMO.

The fact is there are very few clubs with serious money available to them these days as evidenced by the paucity of bids for young Luis.

I don't imagine we'll ever see the likes of Suarez in a Liverpool shirt again, not unless we're sold to mega rich owners. I think people are just being realistic, if he's going to leave then we want the best terms and scenario for ourselves. I'd like him to stay and be the devastating player he can be next season, but I suspect he'll leave. I supported him throughout the Evra thing because I believed he was stitched up and I think the "biting" incident was blown out of proportion. I think he's a sublimely talented footballer, but a complete nutcase on the pitch. As long as he's our nutcase I'll continue to support him.

Suarez wasn't world class when we bought him , neither was our next great thing Coutinho...... We will still carry on getting the odd player of Suarez's ability, they will just onto better things unless we make the next step up.

It'd be the ultimate Brit-flick love story.

Boy meets Girl, Girl gets head turned by rich, flashy *******, Girl realises what a ******* he is, misses Boy, Boy has a steamy affair with Latin hot head which ends badly, Girl comes runing back into Boy's arms.......etc

Working Title would be all over that.

I'm sorry, but that made me laugh. A tad melodramatic at best. It's practically Arnish in its pessimism.

For example, look at Coutinho, there is a real possibility that he will develop into a truly brilliant player. Different style to Suarez (he's got a style all of his own tbh), but that's not the point.

I can understand why you're moping around, but if you try and apply a little bit of perspective, things actually aren't as bleak as you might think they are.
                Oh I don't know.

As long as he scores another 30 goals this season, I will turn a blind eye to him being a voley cunt.

Can I get in the response to this though? But, he's going to leave us next year anyway, much like Suarez.

I thought Bascombe's piece was good but a little OTT. I don't think you need to go out and buy £20m players to finish in the Top 4. More than one way to skin a cat/Nigey. Got to look at developing a way of playing and a team/squad of good players as opposed to mostly average ones, a couple good ones and a couple of world class players. I still believe we can attract good players and Top 4 will always be possible.

Bascombe's piece doesn't really logically flow when he is talking about our player being potentially picked off by Spurs. Who would, in that scenario, have just sold their best (ever?) in Bale and have a long history of selling the likes of Modric and Berbatov
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                        Mine angry and defrauded young?

That article. We are not like Villa! I hate that comparison so much.

Yeah I think he's been being pretty sarcastic of late. If they sold Bale, their best player, I'd like to see how Suarez (for example, not saying it would happen) would justify going there. Fact is, I don't see any English clubs being able to pick off our best players, whether above us or below us, unless we decide to sell them.

Journalists will always overplay things and make it out to be more dramatic. I just don't think things are as bad as people make them out to be, whether Suarez goes or not

They gain a world class player plus £50m in the bank. And their fans will be happy with that and forgive Bale being sold.

Having placed a price on Luis (i.e. the Cavani price BR referred to) I think we are going to really struggle to turn down anything over £50m. Don't really think we will care who the club is if that type of offer comes in.
Plus Spurs in this scenario would consider that they have significantly weakened their compeition for the 4th Champions League spot.

I would imagine that Levy has already considered hanging onto Bale one more year with the view that RM would buy Suarez of us.

Rodgers: 'Suarez is happy and understands why Liverpool will not sell him'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers claims Luis Suarez "totally understands" the club's firm stance in their insistence not to entertain any offers for the striker.

Liverpool have always maintained they merely had to inform the player of offers of that magnitude and have been steadfast in stating Suarez is not for sale.

They believe they are owed a degree of loyalty from the 26-year-old after standing by him during the race row with Patrice Evra which saw him banned for eight matches and during his current suspension of 10 games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.

The 26-year-old Uruguay international still appears keen to leave Anfield, although he has stopped short of submitting a transfer request or seeking legal recourse, but Rodgers said it had not affected his attitude

"It's a story that can keep running but for me there is no new news," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"Luis is happy. He totally understands the club's point of view.

"He's in a difficult position in terms of not being able to play because of his suspension - he will sit out the first six games and he will miss playing football.

"But he's working hard and remains part of the group. He hasn't been moping about.

"It's obviously difficult when you come back after a break but he has settled in and has been working well.

"He needs to get up to speed and we will continue to work to get all the players ready for the first game of the season."

Suarez's situation was the transfer saga of the summer until it was recently overtaken by Real Madrid's pursuit of Tottenham's Gareth Bale with hardly a day going by without him being in the headlines.

It was not helped with the player being on Confederations Cup duty which did not see him join up with the rest of the squad until he flew out to Australia on July 21 for their third pre-season friendly.

Rodgers is confident, however, it has not had a destabilising effect on the rest of the squad.

"It could have unsettled them but it hasn't," he added.

"It says a lot about their professionalism: the environment that we're creating is that the star will always be the team.

"We want to have top players here but if for whatever reason we don't, we will always know we can rely on the team and each other.

"The harmony in the group is very good. The spirit is strong. Right across the club there is a one club mentality.

"If we can keep it that way we can have a great season."
