Adrian Durham was talking about Rooney the other day and comparing him to the best players in the World "Ronaldo, Messi...for various reasons I dont want to include Suarez " . Annoyec the **** out of me. Suarez is up there with Ronaldo and Messi. These English pundits over hype British players beyond belief.

He should judge players on ability if he is having a discussion on World Class. Suarez os miles ahead of Rooney. Embarassing to think otherwise

Usually listen to Alan Brazil in the mornings and when I get in the car to go home it flicks onto him and Gough. Plus sometimes he talks positive about us so its ok to listen a couple of minutes

He is a wind-up merchant who knows how to push the right buttons - we just take the bait too easily

When I met the guy last week he actually came across to be very intelligent and genuinely knowledgable on the game.

Surprised this went under the radar:

Rodgers: My 'gladiator' Suarez should be player of the year

Uruguayan needs just one more to break Robbie Fowler's record of most Premier League goals in a season

Luis Suarez stands on the brink of history at Anfield on Wednesday night.

If the Uruguayan striker finds the net against Sunderland he will overtake Robbie Fowler 's Premier League club record of 28 goals in a season.

If Suarez scores twice or more he will become the first Liverpool player to reach 30 league goals since Ian Rush in 1986/87.

This is no one-man team but there is no denying who has been the driving force behind the Reds' remarkable pursuit of the title.

Including his 11 assists, Suarez has either scored or directly created 39 of Liverpool's 82 league goals so far this term. He has been heavily involved in many more.

Since returning from his 10-game suspension in late September, the 27-year-old has been on a mission to make up for lost time.

He has also emphatically answered questions about his commitment to the cause in the wake of last summer's failed attempt to secure a move.

When Suarez penned a new long-term contract four months ago, it signalled his new found belief that he can realise his ambitions with Liverpool. That optimism has inspired him to even greater heights.

The race for the Golden Boot is effectively over and Brendan Rodgers is convinced there is little debate to be had about the most deserving recipient of the PFA Player of the Year prize.

Suarez would be the Reds' first winner of that accolade since Steven Gerrard in 2006.

“Luis is a remarkable talent,” Rodgers told the ECHO.

“His sheer will and determination to want to score supersedes that talent really.

“He has an amazing hunger for the game and 28 league goals in 25 games is a wonderful record.

“He is certainly on his way to that (Player of the Year). We have a number of candidates here – players who have been at the top level for a lot of the season.

“But Luis probably more than anyone has been really consistent so he has to be in the reckoning.”

Rodgers insists it's not only the quality of Suarez's performances which should be recognised but also the way he has transformed his disciplinary record.

The striker has only accumulated four bookings so far this season – having clocked up bans totalling 20 games in the previous two and a half years.

That growing maturity led to him being handed the captaincy when Gerrard was sidelined by injury before Christmas.

“I think at this time throughout the country people will be looking at Luis and admiring not only his development on the field - he has become a better player again this season - but also his development off the field,” Rodgers said.

“Role models and players with real class are wonderful talents on the field but you normally find they are even better people.

“That's the one thing people wouldn't really know about Luis. But they are seeing more of a sample of it this year.

“He's very quiet, timid even, off the field. His character and his nature is that of someone who is very focused on his job.

“But when he crosses the white line he becomes this gladiator on the field.”

Suarez hasn't been short of support in the Colosseum this season as his partnership with Daniel Sturridge has tormented opposition defences.

They duo boast 50 goals between them in all competitions in a combined total of 55 appearances.

The England international has 19 league goals and Liverpool haven't had two players reach the 20-goal mark in the same season since the great Roger Hunt and Ian St John 50 years ago.

Rodgers was delighted with the way the pair linked up in Saturday's 6-3 thrashing of Cardiff City when Suarez grabbed his third hat-trick of the campaign.

Sturridge created Suarez's second with a sublime backheel before the Uruguayan returned the compliment for his team-mate.

“In the last three games we have played a diamond in midfield so it's been a bit easier for them to connect with each other,” Rodgers said.

“They've been naturally closer together, while in other games one has been up and one has been wide.

“What they have is this prolific nature about the two of them that they want to score.

“For me it's also important they assist each other as well because it's about the team.

“They did that on the weekend – they both created and scored goals. Both produced bits of wonderful improvisation and imagination in the game.

“With the backheel, Daniel saw out of his periphery vision where Luis was – he knew he would be making that run.

“Luis then set up Daniel was a great bit of creativity on his left side. He played it through the defender's legs for Daniel to score. People talk about the quality of their finishing but they were two great assists.”

Suarez and Sturridge will be tasked with keeping Liverpool's title hopes alive as they seek a seventh successive league victory.

Rodgers will once again send his free-scoring team out to be bold as they look to pin the lowly Black Cats back from the start.

With eight games to go, the Reds are just 18 short of registering a century of league goals in a season. Liverpool have only reached that milestone once in their history – way back in 1895/96.

“That would be an incredible feat if we could achieve it,” Rodgers admitted.

“I haven't been surprised by the number of goals we've scored as it's how we work. It's our mentality. Every day we do lots of exercises on penetration and movement, and being aggressive in our attack.

“We have quality players who can do that. The self confidence of the group has improved immensely.

“Now as a group we don't get down easily in games even when we go behind. If you look at the Cardiff game, we weren't as aggressive in our defending at the start of the game and that led to too many spaces.

“But we stayed calm and composed. If you look at our first goal, there were 27 passes in that move. In the second half we had a lot more control of the game with the improvements in our passing.

“We still have a way to go in terms of developing this side. But one thing we have is a real optimism going into every game that we can create and score goals, and win.

“It gives me great pride to see the team fashion up this mentality which they can now take into games.”

            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

It's that time of the year again when votes are cast for the players who have lit up the Premier League, and West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster has tweeted a picture of his nomination. Little surprise that his vote goes to Liverpool's Luis Suarez, who has 28 top-flight goals for the campaign.

All this talk of Sturridge being greedy. At Cardiff, I've no complaints. 5-3 up with minute remaining, clean through and on a hat trick. That's fair enough. But last night, at 2-0, he had a couple of chances to lay off to team mates and was trying the ridiculous. I know he's a genius, I know I shouldn't moan, but that could have cost us the title.

I think our strikers need to remember that they'll only be regarded as great players if the team actually wins something. Get the game won then play like ****s.

I hope the 15-20 mins after going 2-0 is a lesson, not just to Suarez that we need to finish off games, with the right passes and a bit of luck Sturridge could have had 6 goals in that 20 minute spell

Many would probably say Stevie or Kenny but as a complete player I personally don't see anyone as good as Luis.

                      He is absolutely brilliant.

JHW decision to not let him leave was a masterpiece.

Imagine what could have happened if we let him go this past summer.

Has anyone else heard Luis doing the trailer on LFCTV?

He pronounces his name Suar "ay" rather than Suar "ezz" which everyone else seems to use.
