Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is being closely monitored by Real Madrid with a view to making a bid for the Uruguayan in January according to El Mundo Deportivo.

According to the Spanish source Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is looking to bring in a big name striker signing in January and with Jose Mourinho reportedly deciding to not pursue Santos youngster Neymar, the 24 year old Anfield striker is at the top of the La Liga giants wish-list.

Perez apparently sees Suarez’s growing profile across Latin America as another factor that appeals to Real’s marketing men and that a bid in the region of £35m could be made when the transfer window re-opens. Mourinho is having to deal with fairly few striking options again this season after last term coming unstuck when Argentine Gonzalo Higuain suffered with a long term injury.

That led to the loan signing of Emmanuel Adebayor from Man City and many had felt that Real Madrid would invest in striking reinforcements this summer but instead Mourinho opted to bring in the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altintop, among others, to add more strength in depth to other areas of his squad.

Currently Jose Mourinho depends a great deal on goals coming from his midfield to support his only orthodox strikers, Higuain and Karim Benzema, and an awful lot is expected in goal-scoring terms, from Cristiano Ronaldo but clearly the Portuguese international can not be expected to complete another astonishing 40 goal La Liga haul.

Kenny Dalglish is not likely to listen to offers for Suarez, who has been a consistent performer since his arrival and is now part of Liverpool first choice strike pairing alongside Andy Carroll, although the Scot has also played the former Ajax man up front on his own with a great deal of success also.

Another stumbling block to such a move is the fact that the prolific marksman has professed his admiration for Catalan side Barcelona and appears to have far more interest in a potential move to the Nou Camp but clearly if an offer from a side as accomplished as Real Madrid then there would be a danger that the Liverpool man may be tempted.

Clearly temptation would increase if Suarez could not secure Champions League football with his Merseyside club but currently he appears to be very much enjoying his time with Liverpool and his international team-mate Sebastian Coates has also just signed for the Premier League outfit.

            Wow that's a long post

I'm sure that Madrid would like to sign Suarez but the can piss off, oh and £35m

He'll be off after the next season I reckon, Barca or Madrid one of the cunts will be in for him.

Either that or it will be the predictable bid by Chelsea.

It's inevitable guys, he'll be gone so I wouldn't get too attached to him. Torres shafted us so he will probably end up doing the same.

I'm trying not to get too attached to Suarez as I know he will be gone one day, hopefully he can prove me wrong.

Sorry for the negative post everyone.

If we get the CL place and are genuinely challenging or actually win the title the very best players we have will stay and the very best players around will want to join us.

I'd live in Liverpool if it didn't get so bloody cold in winter. Oh and if it wasn't in the UK.

He's at least £60m in terms of today's market pricing.

He'll deffo be gone within 5 years and we shouldn't expect any different. If we can more or less double our money and find a similar replacement then it's all gravy.

Luis Suárez will be a Liverpool legend, says Steven Gerrard

The Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, has been so convinced by the performances of Luis Suárez that he is certain the Uruguay forward is going to become an Anfield legend.

Suárez has already made a big impression since joining Liverpool in January and put in a typically energetic performance in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Stoke City.

Although Liverpool went down to their first loss of the season, the striker kept plugging away, carving out chances and posing problems to the Stoke defence and Gerrard – who is working his way back to full fitness after a groin problem – can see Suárez going on to write his name into the Merseyside club's folklore.

Asked whether Suarez could become an all-time Reds great, Gerrard told the club's website: "I don't see why not. He's still young enough and I'm sure he's going to get even better than he is now, which is a scary thought. He's got the appetite for the game to learn and get better.

"Hopefully he will go on here for a long time because he's certainly got a massive part to play at this club in the future – the history is there to be written."

Suárez has scored three times so far this term and Gerrard feels that if the 24-year-old can keep it up, Liverpool will be firmly in the hunt for trophies.

"He's a very enthusiastic footballer and very intelligent," the captain said. "He's like a kid in the street and he can't wait to get out for training and games.

"Alongside Dirk [Kuyt] of late, they've been like two Duracell bunnies. They just don't stop and for defenders that must be a nightmare, knowing when you control the ball those two will be chasing.

"It's fantastic to have him and hopefully he can continue his form until the end of the season. If he does, it will give us a much better chance of getting some silverware."

If we are winning titles and competing in Europe whats to say he won't stay for a very long time...

Playing devil’s advocate, say if RM did come in with a bid of £60+ million next summer, its not all doom and gloom.

What do we know about Suarez so far? He’s world class – no doubt. He’s worth over £50 million already – absolutely. He’s not a top clinical finisher yet – reluctantly true.

So if the worst case scenario happened and we got £60million for him (approx) then we could easily invest that (and lure of CL footy) in a Gotzke / Hazard type player. The squad will become more important than ‘the team’ and specially ‘the individual’ this season. Maybe I’m just trying to buffer my emotions against this happening but at least I don’t find the situation galling like with Torres, etc.
