In a way it reminds me of a few seasons ago when there was the possibility of selling Gerrard to get players that would work together and make a better team. In the end the solution there was a position change and buying Torres. I still think one of the problems with us has been that our setup is often designed to make the most of Suarez, who himself is too inconsistent on his own. If there we can adapt how we play, someone like Carroll can change their game or find an equivalent to Torres then the choice is again to keep our best players.Originally posted by Shaggy View Post
It's patently obvious to my mind.

I thought there was more awareness from Suarez last night; on occasion he looked for Carroll, Gerrard and Henderson and had his head up a lot more. He found lots of space just in front of Everton's back four and helped build our attacks, as apposed to dropping deep and going direct, but he also mixed it up and played off the shoulder of the last defender when Carroll dropped off - the defenders didn't know whether to track or step-up and it created so much room, which as we know, Gerrard exploited.
It was a cracking performance.

I said the similar thing many times.
He is a completely different type of footballer when he is given a chance to play with some quality players like Stevie and I think his contribution the team in terms of scoring, assists etc will change positively if we can keep Stevie healthy and bring few signings that will open up Luis' game even more.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I'd be pretty frustrated at the standard of players around me if I was Suarez right now. Apart from Gerrard you have Henderson, Adam, Downing, Carroll, Spearing. It's not good enough for a player of his calibre. Lucas and Gerrard back, another quality centre midfielder and a tricky playmaker and Luis Suarez would come to life as the pressure is no longer just on him to come up with the goods.

Sorry but some of those players brought out the best in Suarez against Everton.Originally posted by acdmackay View PostI'd be pretty frustrated at the standard of players around me if I was Suarez right now. Some of Henderson's through balls were fantastic and Carroll dragged defenders everywhere and he constantly won the ball which landed at Suarez very often.
It will take time but I think you'll see a big improvement in the team when they trust one another. Was muß, das muß.

Oh God - Carroll won a few headers & made a few complete passes now all of a sudden he's a good player! He played much better, yes - but he is still not good enough for this club imo...Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostCarroll dragged defenders everywhere and he constantly won the ball which landed at Suarez very often. Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

But he is at the club and we are hardly bursting in the striker dept.Originally posted by Nick77 View PostOh God - Carroll won a few headers & made a few complete passes now all of a sudden he's a good player! He played much better, yes - but he is still not good enough for this club imo...
Keep playing him and he'll prove himself...

I agree. Was thinking last night how good he and Torres could have been as a pairing (although I'm not convinced we didn't know we were selling Torres ahead of signing Suarez despite the fact the club was sold to Suarez on the basis that he would be playing with Torres). Instead, we've dumbed down with the player losses including Alonso, Mascher and Torres. I wish Suarez could look around the pitch and see that trio with SG for Liverpool (and Torres had never ever gone to chelsea!!).Originally posted by acdmackay View PostI'd be pretty frustrated at the standard of players around me if I was Suarez right now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player unsettle defenders as much as Suarez, they are **** scared of him. Even when he doesn’t have the ball they still panic when he’s near by. His anticipation is unbelievable and he forces so many mistakes out of defenders. I think if we had a pacy striker to compliment him they’d be unplayable. Someone like Hernandez I think would be fantastic. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

If we can buy a top notch striker (BTW speculations are Kenny was at Stamford Bridge yesterday scouting Cavani) another AM and good wide player he would flourish.
As good as he is he doesn't link up nor pass (couple areas he needs to improve) much unless he plays with the players like Stevie that he can trust...Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club
