Torres was better than Suarez in just about every way you can quantify football, while he was at his peak. He just used to glide with the ball at his feet. He may not have had the close control Suarez has, but he still had amazing dribbling skills, and used them to better effect. If someone offered me a Torres from back then in exchange for Suarez now, I would snap their arm off.
Perhaps you were thinking of Owen?In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Then its fair to say that Suarez is prone to a poor last touch.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostTorres was prone to mis-control and a poor first touch, but it was forgiven because he could get a goal from nothing.
danperkins isn't far off being accurate there.
At the end of the day, the ball ended up in the back of the net more often than not. And to say Torres was technically average is just silly. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

...but if he could just rein-in the diving and acting masterclasses for every tackle... even just a little bit, ref's might give him more cred...Originally posted by clanhuman View PostEvery team has players who dive. I don't really care if Suarez dives. I still like him as a person and player. He is a cheat. We all have flaws. We are not all saints.
He's a genius with the ball at his feet, needs to not snatch at chances so much and stop rolling around/diving like he's been hit by a truck for every tackle...
The Huth stamp, he had a genuine claim... but the media haven't made a meal of it as it's 'just Suarez'. Same as when Paul Scholes gets a yellow...'it's just Scholesy', even if it's a leg-breaker

In the Suarez - Torres comparisons, it's worth noting that it's not really direct comparison. Suarez was originally bought to play with Torres which in theory makes perfect sense as I'm sure they'd have been a very good pair, but anyhow Torres left so we'll never know. Carroll was the 'Torres'.
Obviously they're both excellent players with their strengths and weaknesses, but thus far I think anyone would have to take Torres (our Torres; not Atletico, Spain or Chelsea Torres) based on his goal return. I really like Suarez, but his off field persona and controversial nature doesn't do us any favours either. Regardless, I'm really happy with Suarez and glad that he plays for us.

The press in this country will not be happy until he has been driven out.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostBBC Breakfast. Sports news. First story/lead item? Suarez's dive. In a ****ing 0-0 draw. I know he hasn't helped himself here but it's a clear agenda.
Bale took an outrageous dive yesterday and hardly anyone has said **** about it.

The club needs to tell him to stop diving. Just ****ing cut it out plain and simple.
That yesterday was an embarassment.
Can't be arsed to read through all the pages but are some people really saying that Suarez is better than Torres was??
Torres was world class for us, arguably the best centre forward in the world for a period of time.
Suarez has never, not for 1 second even been the best centre forward in the Premier League.
Not saying Suarez is a ****e footballer, clearly he's not but there are no comparisons. Torres by a ****ing massive distance, and then some more again. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
