Aside from that it labels us a selling team and everyone would see we're ripe for the picking. It'd confirm to all and sundry we're no longer part of footballs elite.
Of course but it could work the other way - just look what Newcastle have done with the Carroll cash.

I think we need a reality check here - we're closer to midtable premiership fodder than football's elite.

We haven't been part of the footballing elite for awhile now, living off off name and our history.

As regards Suarez, once he keeps playing the way he is, scoring goals and putting in these performances.... it will over shadow all the bad off the pitch stuff. Delighted he's finally getting some plaudits, the guy has carried us.

        Colin Young - Luis Suarez

He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and there is a sinister side to him which is not welcome in the Premier League, but what a player. Suarez has added goals to his world class repertoire this season, and brilliant goals at that, which is just as well for Liverpool. Where would they be without him?
I forget we've a league full of mother Theresa types apart from Luis

Laughable isn't it. "Not welcome in the Premier League" FFS.

It's so clear cut that Suarez has been and is the best player in the league, that you have to laugh at the other bitter *******s who voted for others. Like 'Laura Williamson', voting for RVP with a mention for Steven Fletcher LOL.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

            complete joke.

Suarez has been, so far the best player in the league and I'm not sure how anyone with a modicum of sense could refute that, it could change of course and he slips away in the second half of the season but I really don't think that will happen.

If he played at OT he'd be lauded as a player up there with Ronaldo and Messi

with the current form it looks extremely difficult to improve the team by selling him or maybe impossible.

Long may he continue in this form its great to watch, i worry what happens if he gets injured so we need to build in other areas but I would worry if we built the team around him and he left.
I think it would be very foolish to sell him at this point regardless if we can get 50m or even 60m for him.

Not only that he wants to be here he is a world class and we are genuinely short on quality at the present time.

Instead of replacing him we really should be looking into surrounding him with some decent players as he will only get better.

the first and most preferable option is to improve the quality of the rest of the squad. absolutely couldnt agree more.

where i differ is that i wouldnt rule out selling him. Every player has their price. also if i was the manager who thought yep for 60m i will sell him i would want that to be in addition to the funds i already had.

Not ruling out selling him is different to selling him. I just want to make that distinction.

Hopefully we build the squad in January and put more quality into the side and rise up the table. If we dont get in the CL soon i can see the choice of selling him not being ours.

He is a world class and to replace him like for like we would need to spend big so the question becomes are we selling for the sake of selling or are we in fact selling with the intentions of improving the squad, which may or may not happen.

If we take the other approach which is to replace him with 2 maybe 3 players the issue is that there is no guarantee that those players would fit in the club of our magnitude, our overall wage bill would go up and we would probably overpay just to sign them (too many ifs and buts), which would affect the types of footballers would be pursuing in the first place.

If he would want to leave that would be different but atm imo it'd be much riskier to try to replace him and improve the squad in the process than to keep him and add to the squad even though I see the attraction for both options.

Not a chance in hell of us replacing him like for like, he is unique, a one off. Only a madman/madmen would willingly sell him

i doubted that we would replace like for like i thought the two or three player option.

the ifs and buts are not just on the side ooh its too risky to sell. there are risks to not selling as well. both sides of that equation are ifs and buts.

what if we could sell him now for 60m but then dont get in the cl and he demands a transfer, the selling club know this and wont budge for more than say 40m we would have an unhappy player and would be 20m down on what we could have got.

he is a terrific player but to flatly rule out ever selling him to me seems silly. its the action of a fan not someone running a football team. if the manager or board dont think its a good deal it wont happen.

torres was irreplaceable, except he wasnt. he has gone down hill and suarez is delivering more than he was for half the transfer fee. of course we can always sell and waste the money (as we know from recent memory)

we are really in trouble if we we are so reliant on one player what happens when he does leave (all players leave at some point) do we just shut the club down?

obviously in making the decision to sell him you would have scouted the alternatives and hopefully have a good idea of the likely selling price and if they wanted to come etc. but again to simply rule out a sale seems short sighted and unaware of the risks of keeping him or any player.

**** everyone who doesn't support LFC. Im sick to death of us just sitting back and getting **** left right and centre. Is Suarez played for the scum or chavs he would be the greatest player ever.

I never said we shouldn't sell him ever but I do think if we would sell him it has to be a very good reason for it and to me there isn't one at the moment.

Best clubs in the world don't just sell their best players unless there are good and compelling reasons to do so.

Barca could probably get 100m+ for Messi but would they sell him.

No they wouldn't (at the present time) and what they do instead they continue to build around him and continue to surround him with quality players so they can get the best out of him.

Luis is only 25 and atm imo we should do the same.

So how is that different tob my only sell if it benefits the club or squad. If it's not right then you don't do it.

I have a feeling that we will look back in years to come and think of Suarez as our Cantona because he is such a big player for our club.
