In fairness, its hardly a Hodgson-level of trying to flog your best players via the media...........think most managers at some point have said that every player has their price or words to that effect.

Because Suarez's price is about £100m. I doubt anyone would pay that.Originally posted by Shackanory View PostHeard what BR said today?

Why not just say he's not for sale and leave it at that? Was muß, das muß.

He's pretty much saying that no player is bigger than the club, we have money available (but not saying how much to impact negotiations) to build a quality squad, so he's not for sale.
It's a bit wordy, but then Rodgers enjoys getting his chat on ... no drama.

I don't have any doubts there will be interest in him this summer, because he's up there. There's a small percentage of players who are world class and he's in that bracket, so I don't think it will be too dissimilar to when I first came in last summer, with clubs making their interest known. People will want to take him, but I think we all recognise how integral he is. The owners have been absolutely unequivocal in their resolve in terms of wanting to keep him.Last edited by Muddled; 22-05-13, 07:30 AM.

Some might not like him but Bascombe has arguably the best contacts. He says the club very much expect Suarez to stay.
While Liverpool wait to see if Carroll reconsiders West Ham’s offer, they are braced for summer bids for Luis Suárez and have vowed to resist all attempts to lure him from English football.
Rodgers says there is no price that can tempt Liverpool to sell but he is increasingly optimistic the Uruguayan wants to stay.
Liverpool harboured deep concerns Suárez would quit England following his 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, but more recent talks with the striker’s agent – Per Guardiola – and the Merseyside club’s owners have shifted the mood to one of expectancy that he will remain at the club.
Liverpool say the only way Suárez will leave is if he forces his way out, and Rodgers does not believe he would ever do so after the support he has received.
Asked if he anticipated an offer for Suárez, Rodgers said: “I don’t have any doubts about that, because there’s a small percentage of players who are world class and he’s in that bracket so I don’t think it will be too dissimilar to when I first came in last summer.
"People will want to take him. But he was committed to wanting to stay and work with the club. I think he’s very happy here.
“Obviously he had a circumstance which made it extremely difficult for him but I’ve seen nothing to make me think otherwise.
"I’ve been in contact with his agent so think he needs to go away, play in the Confederations Cup, have a period of reflection and come back raring to go to help us having a good season.
“We as a club and me as a manager have supported him, told him when he’s been right and when he’s been wrong. The supporters show their passion for him relentlessly so as a club I don’t think we can do any more.
“We have supported him when he’s been in turmoil and when he’s had setbacks, when there’s been traumas over the last couple of years. As a club we’re doing everything to keep him and all the players content and in the main I think they are.
“I had a meeting with the owners when they came over and talked about lots of stuff and that was one of them. Listen, every player has their price but there’s certainly no pressure for the club to sell him.
“We all recognise how integral he is. They have been absolutely unequivocal in their resolve in terms of wanting to keep him so he’s not for sale.”
Liverpool admit that in the immediate aftermath of Suárez’s 10-game ban they were concerned, but due to the Capital One Cup schedule and the club’s lack of European football, it could be the striker misses only four more league fixtures at the start of next season.
“I think there was that initial period of shock and anger there at the beginning but a wee bit of reality has set in now,” said Rodgers. “He knows he did wrong. But I look at him in training and he’s still working hard.
“You can’t control what goes on while he is away. I always keep in contact with the players throughout the year not just the season.
"These are professionals. I have given them a limited amount of time off this year. Luis has got a tournament to play. But listen, I can’t worry about that.”Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yep. But it is a long summer and things may not go to plan.Originally posted by Reece View PostMan, if we can keep Suarez and add some of the names we're being linked with, next season really could be so exciting

I totally agree with this. I was at the game vs QPR and there was certainly a buzz and optimism about the place.Originally posted by cream View PostI don't know, there's a feel good factor about the club at the moment, seems like we're going places. Either that or it must be the drugs I'm taking.-----------------------------------------------

Maybe Gorby has more effect on the general mood than we think..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Zimbabwe: President Mugabe Condemns Suarez
IT was highly unprofessional for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez to bite Chelsea player Branislav Ivanovic as sporting events are contests and not a declaration of war, President Mugabe has said.
Last month Suarez sunk his teeth into Ivanovic's arm during a match at Anfield, attracting worldwide condemnation.
He was subsequently handed a 10 match ban by the Football Association.
The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces made the remarks after signing the Constitutional Bill into law at State House yesterday.
President Mugabe said politics, like sporting events, were mere contests.
"Contests come at various levels. We have these contests - Dynamos versus Highlanders... those are contests at lower levels. They must train our participants to recognise the reality of sport. Sport is sport. It is not war. I was surprised to read that one footballer anoruma vamwe.
"Rava game rokurumana? And quite a professional anosevenzesa mazino?" he said.
President Mugabe equated politics to sport saying it was merely a contest and not a declaration of war on political opponents.
"Zanu-PF versus MDC harisi game rezvibhakera. People make a choice. We are called upon to make choices all the time," he said.
The political temperatures are running high in the country as the nation prepares for harmonised elections following the signing of the Constitutional Bill (No. 20) into law by President Mugabe yesterday and its subsequent gazetting the same day. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
