I still feel that he'll stay and give us one more season. I could be kidding myself, but hes still young so I don't think he'd lose too much by staying 1 more and I do believe he loves the club and the fans.

But if he does leave then agree completely with Shaggy, best of luck to the fella.

It's not just a matter of him deserving to play at the top level, the English media as also made it very difficult for him over here. Especially when the dickhead FA govern by media bias rather than logic.

And if we all start turning against him it's only going to help his decision swing towards moving so let's not regardless of how you feel.

Never seen this? He went back after he'd signed for us. Amazing stuff.

I'm amazed so many intelligent people think Alonso didn't want to leave. To me it's part of the double standards as all the logic says he was sensible to go - for money, trophies, a new challenge, everything.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Like I say, I only know it from the 2 fans I know. Will you be cheering when he comes back next year?

And sorry, don't take this the wrong way, and I know this will go down like a lead balloon on here, but Kenny needed no help in making himself look like a dickhead.

He always will be a respected legend, but that season is better entirely forgotten, it was a complete and utter balls up by all parties in every possible way.

Fair enough, if they just want to play for you for a while until something better comes along you can feel something, but you can't love them for that surely? What kind of one sided love is that? And, like any split up, it's often the way people are left rather than just the leaving.

I don't like him but for one reason - he made Kenny's last year as manager of LFC a cuntfest. Apart from that I don't have any strong feelings at all apart from being certain he'll do something ridiculous again next year, which is why I'm happy to take the money for him.

To be absolutely clear about this, he will never, ever be looked on as a Liverpool great when he goes this summer. Can't be bothered to hate him, hopefully he'll go off and play great football without the rest of what he brings to the game in the future.
If you don't like him then we're always gonna have different views, I guess. I've taken serious amounts of joy, real ****ing joy, from watching him play and scoring loads of brilliant goals. I suppose from my perspective I've lost so much of what made me love football in the first place and it's watching Luis Suarez play football that gives me that feeling back.

Well we won't be playing Real Madrid next year but if and when he does ever come back - **** yeah.

Can we start talking about the Beach Boys or cycling so we can disagree?

That's actually quite interesting. I think he's one of the best players we've ever had, absolutely exceptional. I love the way he can turn a match and conjure something out of nothing. I've absolutely no problem at all with his ability and the joy of his play. But the rest of it took the joy out of supporting us last year, which is kind of opposite to you. For me he took some of the dignity away from the club.

I can understand what you mean about the joy you get from watching a skillful player though, he's pure gold to see on the pitch. It's very sad to see it end this way.

The difference between Alonso and Mascherano/Torres/Owen is that the manager wanted rid more than the player wanting out. Suarez would fit more in the latter group really.
Do you think Alonso, Mascherano and Torres didn't want to leave?! Torres was desperate to, Mascherano desperate to go to Barca and, as Neil touched on before, surely you don't think Alonso didn't want to leave and join Real Madrid??

The first group of points you raise I accept but I've accepted that's the way it is (moving to Madrid at the first opportunity) and was always gonna end this way.

Fair enough - that's what professionals want - consistency! I wouldn't boo him which I think goes back to your original hate point. On that point though, there's nothing like a lover spurned! It's like sticking up for your ugly first girlfriend through thick and thin only to see her going off with some **** from the school down the road

I think people have this simple notion of trust and loyalty. Once it is perceived to be broken by either side then everything else is fair game. They also have a simple narrative that explains each scenario.

For me, I don't really think ill of any of our ex players. I find Torres's fall amazing and quite funny, but that's just general schadenfreude. Owen I dislike because he seems like an arrogant prick. No thoughts about Mascherano at all really. If Luis goes I'll probably regard him as an idiot who was excellent for us for two seasons. Again, no strong feelings either way, especially as we'll be getting decent money in to replace him.

McManaman is an odd one. Left for a free at nearly the peak of his value which screwed the club as much as anyone, you'd think conventional 'logic' would dictate everlasting hatred but that isn't his legacy at all. Maybe being local explains it, don't know.
