If he wants to go, I won't begrudge him a move personally (and I'm sure he's relieved to hear that ) I'll be gutted but after the Torres and Rafa situations recently football can't really surprise/hurt as much now.

We need to put ourselves in the best possible position, if we sell we have to get every last penny Madrid will throw at us. Get it done early so we don't have £50m burning a hole in our pockets late on in a window like last time.

Reds will fight to keep Luis Suarez
No £40m buy-out clause as LFC prepare to stand their ground over striker's future

Liverpool FC have warned Luis Suarez they have no intention of granting him a quick exit from Anfield this summer.

        By James Pearce

The Reds are refusing to admit defeat in their battle to keep the prolific striker, who has his sights set on forcing through a move to Real Madrid.

The ECHO understands that reports in Spain that Suarez has a £40million buy-out clause in his contract are incorrect.

Liverpool remain determined to keep the Uruguayan and even if Suarez submitted a transfer request it would take a bid well in excess of that figure for the Reds to consider selling their 30-goal top scorer.

Club officials have rubbished Suarez's claims in South America that he has already told Liverpool he wants to leave.

In a statement the Reds, who have had no approach from Real Madrid, made it clear they intend to hold on to the club's most valuable asset.

“Luis Suarez is not for sale,” it read.

“Neither Luis nor his representatives have communicated their feelings to Liverpool Football Club.

“The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract. We will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

Liverpool broke their silence after Suarez's latest interview in Uruguay where he is preparing for next Wednesday's friendly against France.

The 26-year-old, who is currently serving a 10-game domestic ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, once again bemoaned his treatment at the hands of the English media and said he was disillusioned with life on Merseyside as his family were “suffering”.

Suarez denied that his desire to move to Spain was motivated by money but rather an ambition to play in La Liga.

“My coach (Brendan Rodgers) and my colleagues know what I went through,” Suarez said.

“I was mistreated, the media didn't treat me well. They know that perfectly, and I think it'll be understandable if one day I get to leave Liverpool.

“Because of the paparazzi I couldn't take my child to the park, I could not go to the supermarket.

“I have a daughter to look after, she's important and I think I should put her out of that environment.

“Every day there are pictures mocking me, nobody came forward to defend me. I do not want her to hear bad things about her father.

“I'd rather change because of that, it doesn't have anything to do with Liverpool. I'd love to play in another league too.

“My reason for leaving is not the money. If it was down to economics I would have already left for the countries that have been mentioned.

“I am prioritising my family, my image. I don’t feel comfortable any more. The club knows perfectly what I think.

“I have a contract with Liverpool but they know it's difficult because of the harassment I receive from the press there.”

Suarez's words contradicted those of his agent Pere Guardiola who had told Liverpool 24 hours earlier that the player remained happy at Anfield.

Boss Brendan Rodgers feared Suarez would turn his back on English football after he was hit with the 10-game ban for biting in April but retained hope that the club's support over the controversy would convince him to stay loyal.

Suarez's comments in South America this week have come as a surprise to both Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre as he had not informed either of them of his desire to leave.

Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid are preparing a £40million bid as they look to make Suarez their marquee summer signing.

However, they may need to offer in excess of the club record £50million Liverpool received from Chelsea for Fernando Torres in 2011 in order to get their man.

What is clear is that Liverpool won't give up on keeping Suarez without a fight as they know a player of his talent would be difficult to replace regardless of the fee they receive.

However, they are also desperate to ensure this doesn't drag on into a summer-long saga.

Typical **** journalism of the Internet era, writing articles based on other people's articles which are based on others because they are too lazy and cheap to go to the original data and check what is actually being said. With modern journalism the first interpretation of an event becomes the fact instead of the actual event.
In fairness, if that's the opinion piece by McNulty then it should be treated for what it is - an opinion piece on how that particular journalist believes that Suarez' words are ringing hollow as he puts it.
BBC's reporting of the two interviews, at least the ones I've taken in, have been largely representative of the facts as we know it. Also, McNulty comes to conclusions that plenty of fans have arrived at, including some here as a matter of fact.

Don't agree completely with what he says personally, but I can let some paraphrasing slide when confronted with articles designed to reinforce the writer's opinion. At least to a point.

Suarez, however, does seem set on engineering his departure from Liverpool and is following a well-worn track to do so. Returning to his Uruguay homeland, where he is worshipped and guaranteed a sympathetic hearing, he paints a picture of a poor soul whose life is being made a misery by a British media intent on hounding him, even suggesting the paparazzi make it impossible for him to go into his garden or visit the supermarket.
          Nonsense of course.
The trouble Suarez has had since his arrival in England from Ajax has largely been of his own making as he was banned for eight games in December 2011 after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra and suspended for 10 games - a punishment will stretch into next season if he sticks around - for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield in April.
It may come as a surprise to Suarez that his life might have been a lot quieter, and his media profile a lot lower, had he not been involved in those two incidents, as well as refusing to shake Evra's hand when Liverpool then met United at Old Trafford
I agree that we've seen some reprehensible examples of gutter reporting as Liverpool fans, but we should probably take slight at the more important examples of incorrect reporting.

Oul Luis certainly does know how to cause a severe ****storm that's for sure.

Seems it's widely been reported that LFC and Rodgers had no idea about Suarez wanting to leave. If true, telling the rest of the world first and causing this massive scramble really is disrespectful to the club and fans.

Liverpool insist Luis Suarez will have to ask to leave Anfield

Liverpool striker Luis Suárez must hand in a formal transfer request before he will be allowed to leave Anfield for Real Madrid.

              By Chris Bascombe
              10:30PM BST 31 May 2013

The Merseyside club moved to reiterate a firm not-for-sale stance last night following further remarks from the striker about his desire to exit England.

Despite the robust nature of the club’s insistence, there is a growing acceptance the 26-year-old’s remarks are the opening salvo in efforts to engineer his transfer to La Liga.

Few at Anfield now believe Suárez will be a Liverpool player at the start of next season and if he asks to leave – and the clubs asking price is met – he will be sold.

Liverpool's position in private is Suárez must express in writing his determination to leave the club – and an activation clause valued around £40 million must also be triggered – before they will begin negotiations with any suitor.

It is still conceivable Liverpool could hold out for more than that activation clause, particularly if rival bidders start an auction for the South American and outbid Real Madrid.

Until such time, Liverpool are awaiting further clarification from the player and his representatives as to his immediate intentions. They have noted the interviews he has given in the past 48 hours with little surprise.

There are suspicions as to why they have been expressed now and whether deals have already been arranged between the player and another club, but – muddying the waters somewhat
              – efforts have also been made to play down their significance by Suarez’s advisers.

Per Guardiola, Suárez’s agent, contacted Liverpool on Thursday to state no decision had been taken on the South American's future and he was still considering his position.

Although Liverpool have not been told directly Suárez wants to leave, just as pertinently, they have had no assurance he want to stay, either.

From remaining quiet on the issue, prepared to give their player the benefit of the doubt earlier in the week, Liverpool decided to issue a statement yesterday clarifying the club’s stance in direct response to Suárez’s statements.

“Luis Suárez is not for sale,” read a club statement. “Neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool.

“The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract. The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

This response followed the most recent Suárez interview, given to Uruguayan media on Thursday, in which he made numerous strange claims about being harassed by English journalists.

Suárez said the criticism of him for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic had “gone too far”.

He added: “My reason for leaving is my family and my image, I don’t feel comfortable here any more.

“It is a difficult moment for me, my coach and my colleagues know that the British press didn’t treat me well.

“Firstly, being persecuted by the paparazzi all the time. I couldn’t go to my garden or the supermarket. I couldn’t do anything. I know it is normal to be followed by the press but it was too much. All the silly things they said, all the pictures, all the taunts. That happened every day and nobody in the press supported me.

“They talk about me being named the best player in England but I knew that wasn’t going to happen because of the way they treated me. And the straw that broke the camel’s back was my mistake with Ivanovic. I accept it was my fault, but they went too far.”

Suárez’s complaints about paparazzi have caused particular bemusement. The striker lives in the leafy suburb of Woolton Village in Liverpool, where numerous footballers reside in relative serenity and seclusion.

Liverpool have some sympathy for Suárez’s frustrations at being deprived of Champions League football. In conversation with the club hierarchy at the end of last season — even before his ban — he made it known Liverpool’s inability to force their way into the top four made it difficult for him to commit for another year.

The events against Chelsea have been a catalyst for Suárez to more openly reconsider his future.

Liverpool will see it is as opportunistic to argue the suspension and media coverage of this has played any significant part in the player’s desire to leave.

Suárez was Liverpool’s player of the year last season and would have been a serious contender for the Football Writers Association award but for the timing of his indiscretion.

Controversy has shadowed him as much as his spectacular performances. He has remained bitter about his treatment during the Patrice Evra case, resulting in a eight-match ban for using racial language, and was also chastised for several diving incidents.

Liverpool, for their part, have defended him throughout his Anfield career, often to the detriment of their own reputation.

He did a proper hatchet job on Suarez in his last article, using a video from the halfway point with a ridiculously out of context quote to back it up.

He seems to have some kind of agenda on this and is not to be trusted

Possibly one of the media Suarez is referring to.

That is the thing but, the way hes been slagging the media, they already despise him and twist thing, I don't think we can trust any of them.

The thing that has really cheesed me off about this whole episode is the fact that Suarez is discussing all this in public, giving interview after interview. Not befitting of a LFC player.

If he has a problem, wants to leave and money is not the main thing for him, then hand in a transfer request behind closed doors instead of going public. He's far too emotional as a person and will most likely **** up again in the next couple of years.

Fantastic player, incredible drive and talent but I think unless he makes a Stevie type u-turn asap, we need to concentrate on getting the best deal for LFC. No less than £50m.

So The Echo says that there is no clause. The source is probably Ayre.

Balague said that the clause exist. Source probably Suarez agent.

I will start to believe that the clause don't exist if we sell him for more than £40m.

What cheeses me off is that he gave one interview which as been repeatedly re-churned and. with some fans that somehow translates to ^

The other thing that pisses me off is some of our fans and the complete lack of loyalty they show to 1 of our current players. It's like they're looking for a reason to hate.

I dunno, maybe its natural, they don;t want him to go so they want to make sure they hate him to make it easier to part ways, but i still find it a little distasteful.

It's widely reported he has given at least 2 interviews with some saying three interviews.

Personally, I hope he makes a u-turn and stays. As I say, a sensational player but he needs to sort his head out.

Crucially though, if he really wants to go then so be it. No one will ever be bigger than the club. We'll move on like we always have done.

As far as I'm aware there's only 1 anyway. People have only managed to supply the transcript for 1, the others are just bad translations of the same thing. I think.
