Arn is right on this one. LFC is a big club but certainly our lack of success in the last few years has reduced our attractiveness. We haven't been in the CL for 4 years now.

We can't attract players with CL, so the only reason they will come to us is if they believe we look like we will be back in the top 4 next season. Right now it doesn't look like it. Sure, Aspas and Alberto might be promising, but they will hardly have a dramatic effect on our first team next season.

Then there's money. Money is a huge factor for players and if we have nothing else, we have to try this method of attraction before we find ourselves to far behind the top 5 for years to come.

Realistically we are not climbing the table signing promising youngsters. There is reason certain proven players cost a lot of money. Because they deliver. Arsenal went from regularly being champions to scraping top 4 every year with that approach, one that seemingly is being abandoned this summer.

Did anyone else expect Coutinho, Bentenke or Michu to do as well as they did in their first seasons?

Let's not write off our new signings as minimal impact players as they might all gel and get us into the top 4.

Of course having Suarez is a psychological bonus as he's almost guaranteed goals and will give the opposition defence a torrid time.
        Was muß, das muß.

I think we just have to hope we can identify players that are not considered top bracket but are of the required quality. Spurs signing Modric springs to mind.
          Forwards.......

            Is Modric for sale?

            We'll end up with Baldric...

Yet we climbed the table last year and this season hasn't even kicked off; you're writing us off before we've even kicked a ball and whilst the transfer window is still open.

Agreed. Thinking back to January and the Man City links, I can remember the chat; everybody was questioning the leak and both Liverpool and City denied it. With hindsight, it was the beginning of his agent getting to work.

I still hold that we will get a better team out of selling Suarez for ~40m+ and reinvesting that in 2-3 new players. We will lose a brilliant individual but we will get a better team IMO (or at least potentially depending on signigns of course).

I tend to agree. To all the gloom and doom mongers. Here are the 5 games including the Chelsea picnic and the 4 games after the enforced picnic break

                    Southampton 1 - 3
                    A Villa 2 - 1
                    West Ham 0 - 0
                    Reading 0 - 0
                    Chelsea 2 - 2

5 games 6 points, average 1.2 points game

                    Newcastle 6 - 0
                    Everton 0 - 0
                    Fulham 3 - 1
                    QPR 1 – 0

4 games 10 points, average 2.5 points game

Fantastic player, he carried us a lot during the season, especially up to january when he was are only striker. But it didn’t seem like we missed him so much in his abscence. If he goes and we get in suitable replacements.

Will it really be a big miss?

The last team to break into the top 4 without a billionaire funding it were Spurs. They did that mostly by signing up and coming players like Bale and Modric (big fees perhaps but they were by no means "proven").

I just don't understand who these "proven" players, these marquee signings are actually supposed to be. Without the megabucks to convince them to come on money alone, can you give me some examples of players you think we should actually be signing who are both realistic, and are guaranteed to deliver more than promising youngsters? Genuine question...
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                      Mine angry and defrauded young?

IMO nope - there are just to many that have hung the future of this club up on his pressence, which is nonsense if you ask me. He is a brilliant individual, but that doesn't change the fact that our point average was better without Suarez than with last season. And I honestly believe we can get two really really good players for the team for the price of him. I would personally go for that, getting more squad depth, having players not banned for to many games each season and not least getting a better team out of it, if it works out.

Sell him to Real Madrid, Higuain + 30mill will do.

Luis can **** off now. It was bad enough when he was making kissy faces at Real Madrid and was all "waaaaah, English press" but now he's lifting his skirt up and showing his frillies to Arsenal and Chelsea? Get royally ****ed lad.

I'd already resigned myself to him going before the end of the window and I think I actually want him gone now, I'm just absolutely sick and tired of him disrespecting the club and every single fan who spent two and a half years supporting and defending him in light of him being a constant ****.

Our pursuit failed because of English football's laws against paying third parties for transfers. German clubs can do it so it was more simple for Dortmund in that sense but still difficult in that they had to essentially negotiate three transfer fees.

Being realistic, Higuain and £20M. I'd take that deal right now and would've done weeks ago.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
