Maybe it will be Coutinho. Who knows. But we need to move away from being a team reliant on one or two players as well. It's the only real chance we have of breaking the Top 4 (similar to Spurs). Create a team that is solid and has a few players in it that can win a game, rather than reliant on one or two.Originally posted by Tee View PostI do agree, but after Torres going down the same route for the same reasons we need to get back challenging asap. Which means bigger investment, or every two years this same cycle of events will unfold...who next, Coutinho?

I'd even settle for Mata and £15-£20m. He's as good as Micky Ryan, actually better. All dreams though as no doubt Mata wouldn't come here and manure would probably usurp. One tit for another.

Although nobody on here could have predicted it at the time it could be said that in hindsight picking Downing above Mata may have been a slight error in judgement.Originally posted by Sarb View PostI'd take Lukaku. We aren't getting Mata...we signed Downing instead.
Still. Nobody could have predicted that.A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Exactly. Especially when Dalglish said English players are on a par with the Spanish in terms of technique. You could not even make that upOriginally posted by Rowan View PostAlthough nobody on here could have predicted it at the time it could be said that in hindsight picking Downing above Mata may have been a slight error in judgement.

It matters not a jot who you are... Top players will always be linked with other clubs, leagues etc.Originally posted by ronanm View PostCan't help but have the feeling we're a "sleeping giant" these days. I know BR is still in early stages but I am sick of our best players being linked to the likes of Chelsea et al. The gap between us and Utd shouldn't be as big as it is. The sooner we start redeveloping the stadium and improving our marketing off the pitch, in addition to success on the pitch the better
What matters is your ability to to retain and/or replace them should the need arise.
As for success on the pitch it's all about laying out the foundations and then adding that final bit of class/experience when it matters.
Suarez is that bit if class at present and it would be nice to keep him, qualify for Europe and show further progression on the back of what BR has done in his short time here.
If we don't keep him we will have money to invest and will need to trust to BR and his scouting/commercial team to deliver up another player who will do a job for the Team.

That's the only way I could see us doing a deal with them. Unless they offer ridiculous money again of course.Originally posted by spider-neil View PostMata.
Double figures with goals.
Double figures with assists.
Sell Suarez to Chelsea and get Mata in part exchange. Mata could link up with the other Spanish players in the squad and José apparantly wants rid.Hello mert.
