Luis Suarez wary of Liverpool to Arsenal transfer.. in case the Gunners miss Champions League qualification

            27 Jul 2013 23:01

Second leg of Londoners' play-off for a group phase spot will be played just days before the summer window closes

Luis Suarez could turn his back on a potential move to Arsenal – because he doesn’t rate their Champions League prospects, write Dean Jones and Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday People.

The Uruguayan striker is determined to quit Liverpool, after writing off their hopes of making it into Europe’s elite for the 2014-15 season.

But he still faces a dilemma over whether to hand in a transfer request and force through a move to the Emirates - as he fears the Gunners could miss out on qualifying for the competition THIS year.

The Gunners face a play-off to reach the Champions League group stages and will not guarantee their place until three days before the transfer window closes.

Suarez already has representatives searching for a new London home for him.

But, after telling the Anfield giants he wants to play at the top level of European football, he does not want to face the embarrassment of joining Arsenal - and then playing in the Europa League.

Suarez has decided to quit Anfield as he is convinced they haven’t strengthened sufficiently over the summer to finish in the top four.

That is according to the Uruguayan’s close friend and international team-mate Edinson Cavani, with whom he confided at length over the summer.

Cavani said: “We have been speaking a lot and, while I can’t tell you everything, I can tell you that he is desperate to start playing Champions League football.

“Liverpool already know that, though, because he has told them.

“I think if he thought Liverpool would qualify for Champions League football next season he would stay but, with the other top teams in England adding players, he doesn’t think Liverpool have the resources to break into the Champions League spots.

“I have said before one of the most complete strikers in the world needs to be playing at the top level and I hope Liverpool understand that.

“He doesn’t want to leave on bad terms because he respects the club and fans, but he needs to achieve his dreams in the game.”

Earlier this month, the Sunday People revealed his exit could turn messy over the interpretation of a £40m clause.

And Arsenal have now tabled a cheeky bid of £40,000,001 which they - and Suarez’s agents - believe should allow him to leave.

However, he still has three years remaining on his contract and Liverpool are set to play hardball by insisting they will not sell unless a side meets their £50m-plus valuation of the player.

Real Madrid are still monitoring the Suarez situation.

Crazy stuff. If Gareth ****ing Bale is worth £70m then Suarez must be worth around the same.
                    Are we winning?

Ironic that he claims we don't have the resources, we sell him reinvest the £50m plus whatever we had to play with ..say £20m total of £70m well invested = LFC pipping the Arse to 4th..lolz

Forget £70m, I'm now hearing on other forums bids of £81m and £86m may have been made (and rejected) for Bale.

That's over double the price Wenger is willing to pay for Suarez in the same transfer window. Yeah right! We should now be quoting £60m+ instead of £50m+.

Suarez can't have any arguments with that surely. He is obviously on par with Bale this window, certainly not half the value.
                        One tit for another.

Rationally, no, but he's not exactly a rational character is he, our Luis? If Real come in with any bid that is above "derisory" and we turn it down, I fully expect him to have some arguments.

Which is sad, but partially a reflection that "value" isn't really determined by just on the pitch stuff. Suarez is as good as Bale on the pitch, but he's also two years older, will miss time through bans, and isn't half as marketable (which is big for Real in particular). And Luis, unlike Bale (so far), is being a bit petulant and has a history of agitating for moves in quite dramatic ways. Can't see any team coming in for him at £60m, much less £80m, even if that's what he's "worth" on the pitch.

Normally I'd say that's not our problem since we're not looking to sell, but if we turn down a £50m offer from Real and Suarez flips ala Gronigen, it would become one. Hopefully it at least strengthens our position, though.

we should just keep rejecting madrids offers until they hit 60m. if they want to chuck us that much then we can let him go.

no doubt he will bleat [through his agent, in the press] about being held hostage and being treated as a slave
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

However good Suarez is, his baggage and behaviour have a massive impact on his value. If he was as bland and inoffensive as Bale, we'd be looking at the same level of money (although without the volatility he'd probably be a lesser player anyway). Buying Bale isn't a massive gamble in the way that buying Suarez is. We have to accept that he's not worth £60m plus simply because no-one is mad enough to pay that much for such an unpredictable and combustible character.

Maybe he would be closer to that valuation if he didn't bite players and get banned for using racist language (no matter how wrong or right that was)?

Bale is very young and is absolutely outstanding. If you are going to buy a player of his quality then you are going to be paying that type of money. He is one of the best players about at the moment.

Suarez obviously is also but unfortunately his baggage he brings will always decrease his value.
