Liverpool's Luis Suarez dismisses Real Madrid transfer talk and vows to win fans back

    2 Sep 2013 22:31

"I made the decision to stay weeks ago" claims controversial striker, who didn't even ask his advisors about late Bernabeu move

Luis Suarez is ready to reclaim the faith of Liverpool fans, after insisting he made up his mind to stay at Anfield “some weeks ago”.

The striker was questioned about late Real Madrid interest in his signature when he landed in Montevideo on Monday night for international duty with Uruguay.

But even though sources in Madrid suggest there WAS a late inquiry about his position, Suarez claimed he had dismissed their interest after reconciling himself to the idea of playing on for the Reds.

And the 26-year-old began the job of repairing his relationship with the Anfield faithful when he insisted his only thoughts now are to restore their in him.

“For, me, it has been closed for some time. I made the decision to stay at Liverpool some weeks ago, and I want to stay and work for the team from now on,” said Suarez, who has three matches of his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic still to serve.

“I will go back to Liverpool to play, and I hope to be the same player the fans can trust.

“I said I wanted to play in the Champions League, but when that didn’t happen, I knew I’d be happy with life to have my future at Liverpool.”

Suarez has jetted out to play for Uruguay in World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Colombia over the next week.

When asked about Real's late interest, he insisted he had not even asked his advisors about it because he'd made up his mind to stay, and has made peace with Liverpool.

“It is closed now, and I am comfortable with the decision. I said if there was something good, I would be interested, if not, then I am happy at Liverpool. I can say now I am happy,” he added.

“Of course, I am not playing. I just want to concentrate on getting ready to play for Liverpool again.

“It is good I will be able to play in Uruguay. We have four matches coming up that will decide if we go to the World Cup, and I want to be important in those games.”

While Suarez's commitment to stay is quite possibly the best piece of business Liverpool have done in the summer transfer window, manager Brendan Rodgers has also been keen to express his excitement at the new signings he brought in on Monday.

Rodgers welcomed winger Victor Moses on a season's loan from Chelsea and landed defenders Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint-Germain and Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon for a combined £20m-plus.

“I’m obviously very pleased," said the Kop boss. "The window this summer has been very productive for us, and I think it’s a massive coup to get Sakho, and it’s great credit to our people we were able to sign someone of that calibre.

“Sakho was probably a surprise for many people because he was highly rated at PSG and a French international player who they didn’t want to lose.

“With the likes of him and Tiago Ilori, we’re trying to build something here. Those two players, especially Sakho, can play in the team now, but we’ve got one eye on the future as well.

“Victor is a player the crowd will love, because he wants to beat players, but he also has a real work ethic to him.”

To be fair to Suarez he has kept very quiet these past few weeks, still not overly amused with him though but he has time to win me over.

glad to have his goal threat and all round aggressive play still here for us but you have to wonder how long it will be before he ****s up or ****s us over again.
it seems its all about suarez. time will tell. he might have the best season of his life and be on his best behaviour and everyone will love him again. this might just be to endear himself to madrid/barca.

we are just going to have to get what we can out of him while he is here as we will never know when he is ready to ship out.

Luis Suarez is an idiot, has acted like a spoilt child and was taking the piss this summer. I'm glad he has stayed as I enjoy his football skills and imo as a football fan that's all I care about, loyalty appears to be a bonus these days.

Doesn't matter if he scores 30+ goals this season, ill never have him on the back of my shirt and he'll still be a moron in my eyes.

To be honest, if you are an free thinking adult and idolise ANY player (let alone an adult with a someones name on a shirt), you are deluded (if you are a child well its a different story).

Its a business for these guys, STRICTLY business. So enjoy their skills while they are here playing for LFC, get full $$ for them should the club want to sell, or they want to leave - but don't idolise them because you are only going to be disappointed one day.

Yep, he acted a right dickhead this summer, completely disrespectfully tbh but no point now holding grudges. Move on and play like you can and everything is back to normal.

We don't know what happened. Maybe or maybe not he acted disrespectfylly, we just don't know. That depends on what really happened.

We don't know if the gentlemen agreement existed or not for example. If it did then he had every right to be pissed off.

To much **** aimed at him from people that only guesses what happened.

I think it is childish, stupid and idiotic to abuse our players, to call them whatever you can come up with.

As long as the players play for us and no proof exist that a player acted like a ****house then just don't abuse them.

If they do something stupid during a game then you may in the heat of moment say something not very nice about them but to do it in other threads is just

                                IMO of course.
