Sure, it's to no small degree down to how you read the quotes. Like I say I'm not buying any particular interpretation. But I don't see how you can think it represents 'nothing new' - it raises some glaringly obvious questions about the nature of contracts, whether you believe the quotes say it applied to Suarez or not.

Regardless it IS 'something new'. Hence people discussing it. Quite normal.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostI was talking only in relation to Henry's comments on Suarez specifically, not about honoring contracts or release clauses in general.
Let's be fair, it came up on here when we didn't land Kono.Originally posted by Leyton388 View Posthttp://www.goonersworld.co.uk/forum/...251&start=4740
Page on this is hilarious. Talking about taking legal action against us and us getting deducted points. They really are the most pathetic fans around.

I'm still disinclined to believe the slant that's been put on the comments though. Just doesn't add up.Last edited by Red_Polo; 02-03-14, 11:55 PM.Like blood on iron

Could be

I reckon more likely the quotes have been hashed together to make the talk of not respecting contracts seem as if it were in relation to the clause, when in fact he was just explaining that he was flipping the whole player-club power relationship on its head - Torres sale vs Suarez being kept.Like blood on iron

Either way now though Suarez is under a new different contract and is more than happy here. Realistically only Suarez could have taken legal action as if Arsenal had the question of how they knew about the clause would need to be answered, which with the £40,000,001 bid would suggest tapping up.
Either way Arsenal got played and went out and spunked £42m on Ozil who looks about as comfortable in the premier League as a manc on the kop.

As I've said, I was only saying there's nothing new in regards to actual revelations about the Suarez saga. I didn't question why people were discussing it, I only stated an opinion.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostRegardless it IS 'something new'. Hence people discussing it. Quite normal..

I think Henry had played this beautifully.
He knows Arsenal are starting to wobble
We've gone above them.
Their fans are starting to turn on the team and Wenger
Almost out of the CL
Lost to Stoke yesterday.
Now with these comments from Henry their fans will go postal asking why their club didn't take it further and get Saurez rather than spunking the money on a over rated Ozil.
Suarez being the best striker in the world this season will make their fans question Wenger more after loosing out.
He's played a blinder.

Yep, plus the contract was between Liverpool and Suarez, not Arsenal.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostEither way now though Suarez is under a new different contract and is more than happy here. So I'd imagine that even if there had been any foul play then only Suarez could take any legal action to force a move, as if he'd want to now anyway

Yeah- thats the legal doctrine of privity of contract. Arsenal cannot sue for performance a contract to which they are not a party.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostYep, plus the contract was between Liverpool and Suarez, not Arsenal.

Sky Sports Football @SkyFootball 11m
Liverpool owner John Henry has confirmed Luis Suarez did have a £40m buy-out clause in his last contract. http://www1.skysports.com/football/n...-last-contract …
Tony Barrett @TonyBarretTimes 7m
Suarez's clause was tested by various lawyers & the PFA. John Henry has either been misquoted or not got his own wording right.
