Gotta admit I don't know too much about Heysel myself, I was young at the time and it's not really something I've sought information on.

But that is a damn good read. Shocking, but damn good.

I was too young to remember Heysel so reading that Tony Barrett article was an eye-opener to me too.

The way I see it, what happened at Heysel was almost inevitable given the way football was going at the time. It could have been several other British clubs that caused it, but it wasn't, it was us

It's touching to see such honesty in accepting the blame for our own fan's part in the tragedy, but as a Liverpudlian I have to say I was always brought up with the myth that it wasn't our fault. I think that was/is pretty common and perhaps needs addressing.

There was a story about a Liverpool fan of about 11 who needed 200 stitches to his face the year previous when attacked by those delightful Italians.

You can't defend what happened but its quite easily to point out that Juventus have their own band of special violent lunatics.

I was there both years

Rome was horrific I've never witnessed violence to that level and I went to a lot of away games in the late 70's & early 80's at some "tough" away grounds - but that is the worst - ambushes before and after the game I remember dustbins (on fire) being rolled down the walkways of the stadium at us.

I was with my dad and uncle and they were never involved in any hooliganism (but could handle themselves if necessary) but even they were worried that day

There was definitely a tone of get "our retaliation" in first at Heysel - again I'm not saying from myself or my dad and uncle but that was the general mood of the fans we travelled with

I remember rumours going round that a Liverpool fan had been stabbed by a Juve supporter (as we made our way to the ground) and it spread like wildfire the book "From Where I Was Standing" mentions the actual FACTS of the situation (he was stabbed by a hot dog seller for trying to rob stuff!)

What happened in the stadium was preventable but Liverpool fans should accept the blame for the consequences of their actions (and it wasNT murder as nobody was charged with that). Those that were involved were rightly punished but that doesnt wipe the slate clean its probably the biggest blot on the clubs history and is a day that Liverpool should be ashamed of and feel remorseful for

All the relevant people involved at Heysel were punished LFC fans, Belgian officials were also punished

Yet Hillsborough nearly 3 times the amount of people were killed and not one person has been punished and if anything still some people blame Liverpool FC fans for this

Heysel is never really mentioned around here much... Can someone link me to some sources or blogs. A guy on facebook just gave me a mouthful for mentioning lfc on his page as he is a juventus fan. Calling us murderers etc... Would love to have something to say to defend us.

The events around Heysal are to be made into a film based on a book by French author Laurent Mauvignier called, In the Crowd (anyone read it?). It's apparently about to go into production to be directed by French film-maker Jean Stephane Sauvaire whose last movie, Johny Mad Dog was about child soldiers in Africa. Will, this won’t be.

Understand your point, and i don't know if the person who's page he was on lost someone personally or if he's just a Juve fan, but imo....it's about time Juve fans and uefa accepted their own guilt for the tragic events that took place..
