Would I take it now? No.

Would I accept it as some kind of success at the end of next season? Yes.

If we get top 4 we can push on again so we'd be right on target. But we are Liverpool FC, the squad proved they can compete with the best at the end of last season and with sone good additions I feel we can compete at a higher end of the table.

Looking at performances in the second half of the season, yes, I would be disappointed. I know we finished sixth last year and normally that would be considered too big a gap to close; however, the standard was very low and I can see no reason that with the proper investment, luck with injuries and no European distractions why we can't challenge. The second half of the season table says we are challengers and fully expect that to continue.

Been thinking about next season, what we'll be up against, a Gus Hiddink managed Chav team probably, maybe with Torres playing well too if Hiddink has anything to do with it, and of course any other signings he/they make.

Arsenal will spend money too i think, Utd will maybe add Nasri and a couple of players of that ilk, Schneider a probable, Young and maybe Modric.

Citeh, well they'll sign anyone they can, they have Champions league football to offer now, so i think the players they sign will be quality, and that's added to what they already have, some will play better next season after settling in i expect, they will no doubt unload a few sqaud players or those big names that want out, Tevez...and maybe the other striker.... what's his face...balloon bomb boy.

All in all, it's going to be a tough old season, top 4 is going to be a big ask imo, unless one of the above has a disastrous season.

Imo all top 5 clubs will spend heavily and most of them have fairly deep squads so they will be looking for quality first and foremost.

I think that it will be more difficult to get in top 4 than most peeps think and it is extremely important that we sign right players this summer.

I only hope at least one of those will be what we consider a "marquee" signing.

Good points. It's not just a case of us improving against LFC 2010/11, we first need to catch up with the teams who finished above us and THEN improve on what they have got but they will also be improving their squads. The battle to get into the top4 will be harder than ever this year.
In previous seasons it was safe to say that the top 4 would be utd, chelsea, arsenal and us. These days, arsenal are the weakest of the top 4 but if they drop out there are several clubs that could take their place - it's getting tighter at the top but at least it makes the league more interesting.

I wouldn't take it.... and I bet Kenny wouldn't take it either.

if it was guaranteed i would take it, but also be a little disappointed to.

I think with some of the alleged purchases we can kick on and make a genuine title challenge, lots of question marks over all the top clubs next year us included.

And if Kenny/Clarke got us motoring this year imagine what they can do with a full pre-season and the dead wood gone.

I think not being in the champions league will definiteyl help all teams will drop a few points here and there from being in it, they always do.
