Agonised over the last midfieler. Mcdermott, Whelan, Molby, Alonso, McMahon... Thought Hammans ultra defensive style would be the perfect base for the other players to attack from, but any from that list.

For me, Fowler wins it above Keegan and Rush. And Babbel is in for his performance during the trebble winning year where he was amazing.

That's a great team Charly, mine will have a few differences though.

When you actually sit back and look at the players that have played for our club, it is hard to pick just the eleven. As you said, the likes of McDermott, Whelan, Molby, Alonso and McMahon were all brilliant players, but there is no room to fit them in!

reina has to be close to pushing clemence

other than that...i'd have gerrard, dalglish rush and barnes as defos - also i'd have steve nicol in there somewhere as he can just about do everything. hansen alongside hyypia is a shout - Probably steve hieghway down one wing, barnes the other, gerrard and souness in the middle kenny and rush up top hmmm....it's difficult.

Fookin difficult in some positions, but in others quite easy. I would go for:

I'd have the same starting 11 bar changing Nicol for Neal, close call between the 2 as it was for Pepe and Clem.

These things tend to be dominated by players in the last 25-30 years because there are so many youngsters on this forum.

Any best Liverpool team since we got promoted simple has to include Tommy Smith and Emlyn Hughes. They would both have walked into any Liverpool team since then. Chris Lawler (and Smith, for that matter, who also played many games at RB) was miles better than Phil Neal as right back.

Peter Thompson was also a better left-winger than Steve Heighway, able to dribble rather than beat people for speed, which was Heighway's main strength. Thompson was a joy to watch

There have been to many great players at the club, that you would not be able to fit them all into an greatest XI. They are all Hall of famers to me.

He was close for what I'd consider the team but I really liked Nicol he was one of my favourite players so he gets in my team for that reason

see neal is before my time - and whilst i know others are too, i have seen 'more' of them than neal - plus i saw a lot of nicol and think he was one of the most underrated players we've had....he could pretty much play anywhere across the park or the middle - i've seen play left back one week and right mid the next week - so i felt i had to get him in...

again a similar issue with reina, i've seen more of him than clemence
