I don't really remember watching Clemence in goal for us, he was at Spurs when I started properly watching football.

I know what you mean about Alonso and to be honest I was thinking of Molby possibly but Xabi was just slightly more mobile (only slightly though).

Yep, I thought of Molby too and I agree, you can call it either way. I still think there must be someone else...

It's a pity there isn't room for Ray Kennedy.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

          ---------------Reina
          Nicol - Hansen - Sami - Kennedy
          -Heighway - Gerrard - Souness
          ---------Barnes - Dalglish
          ------------Rush or Fowler

He's Alonso's partner in central midfield. You're losing the plot, kev.

Hmm, I suppose if you play three in midfield you could have Gerrard on the right and Kennedy (R) on the left.

I like Heighway but I wouldn't put him in ahead of Kennedy. I also remember him being more effective on the left but that might be wrong.

Fowler or Rush? There's only one answer.

                      for me i'll go for the players I remember watching whilst growing up right up to the present rather than great players I never saw;

                      Grobbelaar

                      Nicol Hansen Lawrenson Kennedy

                      Gerrard McMahon Souness Barnes

                      Rush Dalglish

                      Subs
                      Reina
                      Rob Jones
                      Hyypia
                      Beardsley
                      Fowler
                      McManaman
                      Whelan

Grobbelaar was a legend. Thing I remember most from my first game at Anfield was signing 'Brucie, what's the score...' and him sticking fingers up behind his back (denoting the score obviously). He coul make the easiest save look like an amazing one. A nutter and crooked, but great.

amen. made amazing saves and some great cock ups. was the first keeper to read the game like a sweeper, would have excelled in today's game. the cock ups could have gone down to the flight of the ball these days. great character.

Liddell was primarily LW but he also played centre-forward (that's striker to the youngsters) according to my older relatives and was apparently a great header of the ball. Unfortunately I was a few years too young to see him play for us. He was always at Anfield for home games in the 60s, so I saw him at games many times, and still had the same charisma and aura that the likes of Dalglish had years after he'd stopped playing
