    Domestic bias?

Are we making a big mistake by only seemly going for domestic players, what with the premium and lack of talent in certain areas?

Is this perhaps because Kenny does not have the knowledge of foreign players that Benitez and Houllier had?

I personally think we can do better than Downing on the wing if we looked abroad.

Obviously there are many benefits from buying domestic, in that they are already fairly settled and can speak the language. I know the squad rules prohibit too many foreigners, but I think we have plenty of room once we flog the deadwood (incidently, mostly foreign-apart from Cole)

As many people have posted, the international transfer window doesn't open until the 1st of July... We can only work with what is available until then.

And I remember reading an article upon Kenny's appointment as caretaker manager that though Kenny has been away from football management for quite a while, his knowledge of current players domestically as well as abroad is extensive

This is based upon papertalk, which while wildly inaccurate 80% of the time, gives an indication to whom we are at least looking at.

The window mwans nothing, as it does not stop teams or players from negociating. The player cannot sign until the window opens.

I think we are looking at players who can cope with the physical nature of the premiership, we're not sure that players from other leagues will adapt. We are looking at a significant number of home based players because we need to make alot of signings, we need most of them to settle quickly otherwise we're in trouble. Homebased players have more chance of settling quickly.

and we may well be taking a little bit of inspiration for the basis of our new look team from one down the road...

I think the reasoning is that it provides a more stable long term platform to build on.

As long as we don't take it from Villa under O'Neil, which is my major concern.

We only have two transfer windows, including this one, to sort out the Homegrown rule..

Not sure how many we have on the books at the moment, which I'm guessing will include the youth players that we've taken on..

The 'homegrown rule' only places limits on a maximum number of non-homegrown players, rather than imposing a minimum on the number of homegrown players. You could have no homegrown players in your squad but the size will be limited to 17 senior players. We have a decent number of homegrown players anyway (Gerrard, Carragher, Carroll, Johnson, Henderson, Spearing, Kelly)

Also Charlie Adam wouldn't could as homegrown, as Scotland is a different association.
