Story's a couple of weeks old. There have been later one's saying he's turned them down IIRC.Originally posted by Fierce View PostWhere has this come from, anywhere concrete? Chelsea have just appointed Di Matteo, although maybe he was second choice after Clarke? That would be epic
Chelsea want to make Guus Hiddink their new manager this week – and then raid Liverpool to bring back Steve Clarke.
Turkey chief Hiddink will complete a *return to Stamford Bridge as soon as possible, with owner Roman Abramovich ready to write a cheque to the Turkish FA to buy out the rest of his contract.
The veteran Dutchman has opened the door to a second spell at Chelsea, but he will not job-share like he did last time when he was coach of the Russian national side.
Abramovich and Chelsea must thrash out terms with the Turks as they look to find their new boss in a hurry – with *plenty of transfer activity planned for the coming weeks.
The Russian billionaire wants an answer fast, with Tottenham’s Harry Redknapp waiting in the wings as an alternative should their swoop fail.
Chelsea are also looking at adding to their coaching staff, with a vacancy open since Ray Wilkins was axed halfway through the last campaign.
Abramovich would like to see former player and *assistant-manager Clarke *return. However, he has signed a new deal to work with Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and will be hard to budge.
People Sport can *reveal Abramovich has been personally *pushing on a couple of transfer targets but he is keen to have a boss in situ to help *persuade *stars to join.

My villa supporting mate (who now realy rates Downing) also had a England Ticket for Euro 96 and said that Sammy Lee's pre-game warm up sessions were brilliant. He was also very popular amongst the players, which granted is much easier when you dont have to pick the starting 11.
In FM terms he'd be a great Fitness Coach. Popular, Encouraging and creative in making the hard work sessions relevant and fun for the players.
Was always on the cards after a top class number 2 joined in Clarke."that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011

According to The Times, Paul Clement, Chelsea's Assistant 1st Team Coach until last week is a leading candidate for us in light of Sammy Lee's exit. Now in only getting this from Twitter and Jim Boardman it doesn't say whether this is for the Assistant Managers role or 1st Team Coach. I'm guessing it's the latter.
The paper also acknowledges that Gary Mac would be a choice welcomed by many players and supporters.
It also says Sammy 'was dismissed' & the timing suggests a replacement is already lined up (Clement on gardening leave).

on lfc.tv:
Liverpool FC confirmed today that Assistant Manager Sammy Lee has left the Club by mutual consent.
Team Manager Kenny Dalglish said: "We'd like to place on record our thanks for all of Sammy's hard work over the years and the contribution he has made to Liverpool. He has always been a credit to the Football Club and a credit to himself. Everyone at Liverpool FC wishes him all the best in his future career."
Sammy Lee said: "I returned to the Club in 2008 and I'm proud of the contribution I've been able to make since then. I want to wish Kenny, the players and the supporters all the best going forward."
The Club will continue to analyse the requirements of their backroom team and will make further announcements in due course.
