In some ways Sammy reminded me of our own Neil Young. He was the barker at the club.

I'm not sure - I like him as a personality but he strikes me as a safety first sort of coach. We have Clarke in to hand the defensive aspects and I would like to see more progressive coaches bought in for other areas too.Originally posted by Darkon View PostI would like to see Thompson back in the role, but that is very unlikely, but I liked him when he was in the staff."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I always thought of Thompson as a great motivator and not a particularly defensive one if you think of the time he was in charge when Houllier was ill.Originally posted by dww View PostI'm not sure - I like him as a personality but he strikes me as a safety first sort of coach. What makes it unlikely to me is as a personality he would be to close to Kenny, who seems to be the inspirational / motivational person in the staff now, and he perhaps need some more tactical sound people behind him now. So they are perhaps to close to eachother as types IMO.
So basically completely different conclusion

I kind of remember his time in charge as one characterised by unity but still essentially a very counter attacking, functional side. I'd agree about his motivational presence but I'd agree with the point you make about Kenny seemingly having that covered.Originally posted by Darkon View PostI always thought of Thompson as a great motivator and not a particularly defensive one if you think of the time he was in charge when Houllier was ill.

I guess it's also a matter of material available and tactical pressence. He took a caretaker role for the most defensive manager we have had and it's hard to change as caretaker. I still think he is schooled in the classical LFC way, and has more to him and I think it showed for the duration - although it's some way back so it's somewhat blurred.Originally posted by dww View PostI kind of remember his time in charge as one characterised by unity but still essentially a very counter attacking, functional side.
