Hey Boss, Yer Avin A Lafff!

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drill...956061101-1542.

John Arne Riise has revealed how Rafael Benitez's decision to name the same team for the first time in 100 games brought smiles to the Liverpool dressing room last night.

The Liverpool boss surprised everybody by sticking with the players who had defeated Aston Villa on Saturday and sending out the same starting eleven to face Bordeaux.

Riise admits there was a relaxed atmosphere in the minutes leading up to the game anyway, but he admits Benitez's shock announcement took everybody by surprise.

"We didn't know what the team was going to be when we arrived at the stadium but I think we all hoped it would be the same because we played well against Aston Villa, we were all fit again and we all wanted to help the club qualify for the next round," he said.

"When he told us it would be the same team as Saturday we just looked at each other and started smiling. This was the hundredth game - he couldn't be keeping the same team, could he?

"There was a great atmosphere in the dressing room before the game anyway, but this just added to the fantastic feeling we all had. It was a nice moment and good fun.

"To be honest we're bored of reading about rotation. We know what our manager stands for and we support him one hundred per cent. He's one of the best around, he's so tactical and so thorough in his preparations and he knows what he's doing.

"He wants every player to be fit for every game and it's just not possible to keep using the same players over and over again."

Rafa has some sense or humour brillant, what a way to show to fingers to the press and to White now they can stop talking about this rotation stuff

Of course it'll go the other way now. When he rotates at the weekend they'll start on it again. Dog with a bone.

I know what you mean but Rafa keeping same team or changing it again is far less of story than the rotation/Tinkerman thing.

I wondered if it was deliberately done to shut up the press (and maybe the forums too) as much as for any other, footballing reason. It seems counter to his way of doing things which, to me, seems to be to do the minimum required to win, with the result that you expend minimum energy and resources (and of course sometimes you get it wrong, e.g. Burnley a couple of years ago). Last night he could easily have rested some players, it was Bordeaux at home and a win, while useful, wasn't vital.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

TBH, while a win wasnt vital, i think he was keen to get qualification done and dusted ASAP.

And whilst we could've ground out a
1-0 with a weaker side, the impact the 3-0 has on confidence and momentum is massive.

We're set up nicely to go on a monster run now, ala last season.

I think in the long run though a win was always likely to allow more rotation later on, when it is probably more useful. I think that the momentum of a few wins on the bounce is worth more mentally than it costs to play the same team in terms of fitness.

Rafa clicked on one of the banners on Koptalk, got himself a free £20 bet and placed it on him naming an unchanged team. He is going to use the money to launch a bid for Michael Owen

To be honest I recon Newcastle would have taken the £20.

He countered it well, but we all know that players hate rotation/being dropped.

However, like Riise i'm bored of the rotation talk now. As long as he keeps the defence, namely the CB pairing pretty solid i'll make my peace with it.

Alonso won't play at the weekend I suspect. Pennant will play on the right with SG moving into the centre. Garcia will probably get a rest as well with Riise moving up to LW and Warnock LB.

Xabi and Garcia are both doubtful with injuries.
