What I found quite striking about that Downing vid is how often he cuts inside. Considering he was bought to provide us with width I was very surprised to see this. When he did hit the byline down the left he provided Carroll with a couple of really good crossed.

I also felt that we didn't get enough men into the box when we were in crossing positions. There were several occasions where Carroll was the only target - which obviously makes things comparitively easy for defenders. This is in stark contrast to when Kenny first took over - one of the most noticable differences between his style and Hodgson's was the number of players we got into the box.

Fingers crossed these recent results can spring us into action against Valencia on Saturday. We could really do with a convincing win.

i think he cut in so much because he was on the right so often. that's what happens when the manager opts for inside out wingers.

Agreed - which makes it a surprising decision from Kenny really.

Confirmed that Skrtel is out of the Sunderland game

MARTIN SKRTEL looks set to miss the start of the season due to an ongoing calf injury.

The Liverpool defender played every minute in the Premier League last season but has missed the entire pre-season programme.

The Slovakian has pulled out of his country’s friendly against Austria next week and is unlikely to be fit to face Sunderland on Saturday week.

“I suffered an injury setback on Friday,” Skrtel said.

“I felt strong pain in my leg so I am back with the doctors receiving treatment.

“I really don’t know how long will it take to heal. I am doing my best to be back as soon as possible.”

Losing Skrtel is a big blow for Reds boss Kenny Dalglish but fellow defender Fabio Aurelio has returned to training after injury.

“Fabio is training now but Martin has not joined in with us yet so we will wait and see,” Dalglish confirmed.

What chance Fabio has had his endo-skeleton strengthened Wolverine Style and put in a full season for us?

                    Not likely

I'd settle for him being fit for the Sunderland game to be honest.

It is a blow about Skrtel.

I'm really impressed with Charlie Adam in that interview. Downing and Henderson said all the right things, but Adam has something a bit more about him.

Going to be Agger and Carra in the center then. Hope Agger can somehow play 4-6 games straight before Skrtel is fit again.

Barca lost again then, cant see them winning a trophy this season.

I see what you did there.

But TBF they already have Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, Villa, Pedro and have signed Sanchez and probably Cesc. And there are no questions about them gelling as a team. Pre-season for them is purely fitness and a bit of a refresher course.
