I think the problems with our selection are that no pairing really looks totally convincing and the best pairings all involve the injury prone Agger. He is also the only one of those who regularly brings the ball into midfield.

I think we should be looking to get Wilson regular games somewhere as he's not at the level of the other players and will only develop with game time. I think a 3/6 month loan at some point this season would do him a world of good.

I'm still of the opinion that the leftback berth can wait and we should prioritise sorting out the CB slot - especially as Carragher will be less and less likely to be able to play every game.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree 100%; we need to sell high wage earners who are ****; Cole, Jovanovich, Poulsen should go, Shelvey and Wilson on loan... fine by me. My objection is that "we've accomplished our goals in the transfer market", with Downing as a "marquee signing", both of which I think are underwhelming. If we had £20 million for Jones, we should have money for a CB and an LB. Maybe Cissokho is on the way (great news if true), but who knows; my main point is that Comolli says he's done all he wants to do in the summer re: buying, and that's Downing, Henderson, Adam and Doni. When we went into the window, LB, CB and LW were our most galring needs, IMO. If "we've done most of what we wanted to do" without an LB and CB, I have a problem with that.

Secondarily, and I am sure this is NOT TRUE but still; you get the feeling that Comolli watched our matches last season and was like "That Carroll lad is good... Henderson looks ace... Adam is killing us out there... what a goal by Downing..." and signed them all up. This is more me taking the piss, but seriously. Just a weird summer in my opinion.

I am happy FSG are backing the manager and Comolli, I am pleased with our signings as players and welcome them with open arms, but this is not the window I expected is all. I hope its a smoke screen to lower prices on remaining targets and I hope we get a CB and LB. That is all.

He said we've done MOST of what we wanted to do. He didnt say we wont sign anyone else. This is utterly bizarre, a massive panic over absolutely nothing!

I'm not panicked. Any other posts you object to in this thread or just a hard on for me?

Its not bizarre at all, it's merely standard practice for Est during a transfer window

No one else in this thread is being a complete tool so it's just you I've taken a fancy to.

How you've got "makes me wonder if he has seen a football match outside of England and is the right man to be doing deals for LFC" from Damien Comolli saying most of our incomings are done I do not know!

I don't think the signings we've made have been what people would have dreamt of, alot of people were expecting/wanting more high profile signings and with all due respect to the players we've signed I don't think that they fall into that catagory. That said it's not about hope high profile signings it's about how they do on the pitch, and over recent years the high profile players have been big let-downs (Cole, Keane, Kewell, Morientes etc), while many of the lower profile signings have been very good players.

That said I'm still hoping for us to pull a high profile signing out of the bag

You seem to be a humorless person.

I read Comolli's comments and was put off by them; he seemed to be saying that Stewart Downing was the big, big signing we were told to expect and how excited we should all be and that this pretty much concludes business for us. So, I feel like I've opened my Christmas presents and I am feeling particularly underwhelmed by a bunch of clothes my uncle thinks are just great. Maybe my dad will pull a new bike out from behind the tree, but otherwise, excited for the season but not THRILLED with the signings. Guess that opinion makes me a cunt.

The reason I JOKE that it seems he's never watched another league is that in this window, he's only signed players from The Premiership, save Doni on a free. I have been defending the fees we've spent on these players assuming we'd still be buying what was required and maybe something bigger to push for the title. There are several young european players who are quality who would be great signings that we have not secured. Cissokho would be great, IMO. We could use a strong CB as well. Is it Scott Dann/ Gary Cahill or bust? We don't seem to be casting a very wide net in terms of our signings.

I don't really want to argue with some jerk I don't know snipping at me for no reason, so I'll let it go here. I'm just trying to have a discussion about the transfer window and I'm underwhelmed. enjoy your pointless outrage and thank you for trying to regulate the opinions of strangers on an internet forum; the world needs more like you.

No problem with that as we need to get players off the wage bill if we want to bring in more. We need a CB, LB and backup striker IMO

Be underwhelmed, thats cool. The insulting of Comolli and twisting words from his interview is ****ty though.

And theres rumours we're close to getting him. For some reason you've translated "we've done most of our business" to "We will not sign another player".

Although I take your point, is it possible to make a case for Downing to be a marquee signing if he consistently lands the ball on Carroll's head in the opposing penalty area next season?

Tony Evans was on Talksports a minute ago and when he was asked about Cissokho he said it is possible but unlikely.

He thinks we will be shipping the deadwood out and not sign anybody in last 6 weeks of this transfer window.

Then he corrected himself and he thinks that shopping is not completely finished and it may come down to value.

He also thinks Flanagan and Robinson (I think he said Robinson) will see lot of playing time this year..

If he produces then absolutely but I haven't yet seen anything from Downing in his career thus far to warrant a tag of 'marguee'.
