    No Worries!

Is 12 goals conceded in our last 4 games really nothing to worry about? A few kopites I know have dismissed it as pre season naivety, it serves to dampen my doubts somewhat but still;TWELVE! I appreciate that we have fielded a predominantly second string; in each first half of our games, so please tell me me doubts are unfounded and to refrain from posting such negative trash at an important time of our resurrection . I'm probably just being a worrisome .

Just shows our back up isnt good enough really, Insua is still hopeless etc etc. Kelly has had a bit of a mare but he proved himself last season and these are his first games back from injury so im sure he'll be fine.

Defo need to buy a few defenders though.

I think it also shows the importance of having a decent back up keeper..

If Reina had played in any of those games, I'd be a bit more concerned..

Still early to get new defenders. My worry is we've been playing players who were trying to get off our wages. That has me stumped. No one in Asia or Turkey will give us a second look after treating them like chumps. Bit of a pointless exercise for all.

i asked a good mate today about the beginning at the red sox. it started the same there.

          Garrett posted to Mike

hey mike, was there a time in the beginning when sox fans were wondering what the hell the new owners were doing and scratching their heads at the new players coming in?

Garrett no. who were the first players they brought in? did they turn out to be clutch players? were they sorta squad players but not big stars?

Mike Johnny Damon, David Ortiz, and so on. Both were never really stars until they got here.

Garrett ok. the natives are getting restless over here. some seem to think that we have only bought players we didn't need when there were better players available for a similar fee.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I read Moneyball last month and absolutely loved it. The chapter about draft day 2002 was fascinating. But what I thought was missing was the reaction from the Oakland fans. There must have been a lot of head scratching and disbelieving going on. They must have thought that their manager completely lost his mind picking a player in 1st round that nobody wanted before 15th and so on.

Anyway football is completely different ball game as we all know but still statistics will have a lot of use. We can only assume and speculate what is going on behind close door at Melwood. Here is what I hope is happening and reasons behind players that have been chosen:

                1. It was already mentioned that all three midfielders have been close to the top in chance creating stats. It looks like this characteristic has been chosen as the leading one.

                2 Why Downing not Mata?

In Moneyball it was clear that it is better to chose players from college, not from high school as the college leagues are much more competitive. Maybe stats are showing that the success rate for Premier League players is much bigger than for players from Primera. Maybe at the moment as it was mentioned a lot of times we need more player like Downing. Again I might be talking out of my arse, who knows

For the first time in 2 decades we have 3 main indigrients to be succesful in place: good owners, good manager and good players. And I personally don`t have a slightest problem that this summer instead of attempting to jump 2 or 3 rungs at the time and trying to go for fancy but still untested supposed word class players we are building solid foundation to get back into champions league.

And in football you never know what will happen. I think we are in very strong position to attack TOP3. We have weaker first "11" than in 2008/9 but stronger and bigger squad and this combined with lack of European football can prove crucial. Due to Euro`12 there will be a lot of games squezeed in March and April and we can be unlikely benefactors of this.

                Here is me hoping anyway

Another three goals conceded today. I appreciate that we need to be looking into the future, but let's face it. We can't keep conceding goals at this rate! Pre-season friendly or not it is worrying.
